Would anyone like to see the Pillager in MWO?

Krikiey, and people were calling my original Rifleman design "overly exaggerated"?

BTW, I have been looking into the Stats for Long Tom Cannons, and am truly underwhelmed. Yes, they are long range, and good damage, but dealing with the issues of indirect fire accuracy is one thing when you are 5+ klicks out... but when you are essentially in clan ER L. Laser range? I'd rather have the Gauss, or make it a jumping Fafnir, and see if I could stick 2 Heavy Gauss onto it.

Long toms are secretly LRM's didnt you know? ;) Anyway I like the Pillager, I just think it takes a lot more than writing some code in to include another mech. I personally would like to see just about every official design ever created put into the game (with balancing, of course), and I think the Dev team could do it... with a nice hefty EVENTUALLY added in at the end. I think there needs to be an official way to get "petitions" or something to have your favorite mech voted upon, and not to get it implemented right away but to bump it up the pipeline to the "on-deck" spot. Campaign for Pillager, he's gonna save you taxes!

It's a decent mech, and I love jumping assaults, but isn't the Pillager an ultra-rare Star League tech mech. Might as well give me the Kintaro while you're at it.

The interesting bit on sarna is this:

Later Pillagers were upgraded with more cutting-edge Star League technology, which ultimate spelled their doom on the Succession War battlefield. Production of the Pillager halted not because it's facility was destroyed, but the advanced Gauss Rifle and XL Engine production lines had been obliterated by the end of the Second Succession War. Curiously, Hildco did not restart production of the original PLG-1N, rather the Pillager lines only began production again in 3058 when advanced components were once again available for the PLG-3Z.

It appears that both XL reactors and Gauss Rifles are available in 3049 again. That means those Pillagers who were doomed to catch dust in depots for the lack of spare parts could be fielded once again. Stopped production did not stop Mechs to work in the universe. A lack of spare parts most certainly did. Seems like the Pillager was good to go with both Gauss Rifle and XL reactors being readily available.

Certainly, what ever remaining chassis were out there could be refitted, but in the scavenger ways of the 3rd Succession War, I can pretty safely say that any mech that the could not power or arm was cannibalized for parts, long, long ago. Nostalgia gave way to pragmatism, and no one was going to leave a treasure trove of spare parts laying around in the hopes that 100 years later they might be able to re-arm them. Would bet that there were virtually no intact Pillagers left in the IS, outside of Comstar (especially with the Hoodheads sabotaging every bit of lostech they could find)

Barring the devs generosity, I can cite another source that is somewhat related.

Quote

Davis McCall of the Gray Death Legion found the plans for the Highlander in the Helm Memory Core and put every cent he could find into building a Highlander for himself to replace his Rifleman that had been destroyed in the fighting on Helm.

Different Mech, similar problems: Gauss and XL reactor were missing and the Mech did not enter production before 3057 (Son Hoa). Still, that didn't stop Davis McCall from fielding one. I think there is enough precedence to allow Mechs that are not in production.

I get where you are coming from, but those are basically one offs, like the early Devastators were, where a handful might exist. It's great story point, and or "stage boss" stuff, but taking exceedingly rare designs... and then making them available to EVERYONE is a little different, and yet that is wht one would have to do unless.......

Hey here's a thought.... taken from my days as a Dark Age judge......

Official Matches had limited edition Dark Age Uniques and stuff as prizes. While one can't use the exact same model, how does this sound:

PGI or another Sponsor like Invidia hosts matches, tournament style, that ones apply for, random enter, fight their way into, whatever. As a prize, the winner gets first access to a super-rare, like the Highlander or Pillager or such, which would give some pretty good incentive for people to fight in qualifying matches to try to win said mechs. Eventually, some chassis with minor mods gets used as prizes again, and when they are ready for general production, the design is ready to go, essentially. This could also work in "capture" scenarios with Clan Tech once the invasion starts, much like how Hohiro and Shin captured a Daishi and star of elemental armor.

Waddya think?

PS, it also would be easy to rig the matches with multi tiered "prizes" or objectives, like stashes of Lostech, rare weapons, and stuff. It would have to be all skill based, no paytowin stuff, or it would be briken before it even began, But I think a dropship scenario where 3-4 lances of Mechs from opposing units are racing each other to recovers a recently located Star League stash, rumored to have chassis, tech, etc, .... the units fight until one side destroys the rest, or the others are forced to retreat to save their own resources.

Sounds nasty. I'm sure this kind of deal can be tied up with ESL and Solaris to give it a proper background and allow people to see the new stuff in action. Tell you what, your idea is definitely worth a suggestion as it attracts people on multiple levels. All yours, go get the credit ;)
