Situation:

I overheat
I press P for quicker powering up
I power up
I power down

Why? Just cause my heats were actually low enough to warrant a normal powering up.

Could you please only register the new command once the mech has entered the new state?

While it's fun to see enemy stalker spamming P, accidentally getting himself to power up and down infront of us until he dies, I'm pretty sure that wasn't his intention.

I experience this frequently as well. I really like your idea. While we are on that thought, it may be easier to just have separate power up and power down commands, for example:
  • lower case 'p' to power down
  • upper case 'P' to power up
Of course you might come up with something more clever.

No.
Just rollback to the old override shutdown system, except you can press 'O' also if you are not overheated to start that 5s shutdown prevention lock.
That's all, simple, elegant, intuitive and as close to the already known system as possible.

Another simple solution to prevent people to accidently power down because of trying to force a power up after overheating:

- enable queuing power up commands
- disable queuing power down commands
