Um.

Nah.

No need. I love RAC as much as the next trigger happy *****, but there is plenty of canon kit around to keep our appetites for hilarious giant metal roboty armour death well fed.

I know, and with the introduction of melee weapons we should have all the weapons-fun we want.

That's good enough for an initial release...

Wait, wait, wait!

You forgot the Claw, Flail, Wrecking Ball, Dual Saw, Chain Saw, Pile Driver, Rock Cutter, and (in 3051) Spikes.

(Sorry, DCMS, the Sword and Vibroblade don't come out for another 10 years or so...)

Most of the new stuff gets introduced around 3058, so you'll have to use what I mentioned for quite some time.

They have already heard this, and there are Thunderbolt launchers available in the timeline somewhere. Thunderbolt launchers are versions of LRM launchers that fire a single missile at a time instead of a volley. That single missile does 5, 10, 15, or 20 points of damage depending on the size of the launcher. They were developed for Solaris arena combat and are not widespread outside that venue. They cannot use Artemis or NARC, and they are very vulnerable to anti-missile systems.

There's no reason for them.

For some insight to our (MekTek's) reason for the LCBL, we were experimenting on making Pulse lasers, or a version of them, actually worthwhile in the game. The thing is, pulse lasers, as presented in MW4, used a similiar form of attack as regular lasers (alpha) but while they had a fast recharge, they added less to an alpha, so were not very viable. The LCBL was an attempt to make non cover based combat more viable. (ie make an antisniping weapon where people could run in and kill people in mechs built around the volley (alpha then cover) form of combat. Merely upgrading the Pulse weapons in the game to higher damage just meant they'd be used as the current ERLL are, just mroe frequently, they didn't provide a true alternate form of combat.

I can't say it was an absolute success, we had problems making it viable but not overpowered, lots of whining from people in NHUA games (we didn't balance to that form of play) It did provide a viable different form of combat. I wanted a system like RACs where they could stop firing if used for too long at a time, but that wasn't implemented.

I don't think the RAC-10 or RAC-20 are necessary, or desirable. I argued against them being included in the first place. They jam so frequently that i don't think they're terribly OP, but they just seemed like a failed concept IMO.

The Railgun, which was extremely conflictive when first implemented, was not OP imo because of the way damage in MW4 was exchanged over the server, one huge weapon or a lot of smaller weapons all happened at the same place and at the same time. This is not necessarilly true for MWO, I would never suggest a weapon like that for a game with a more complex targeting and damaging system. In MW4 it was essentially two Gauss rifles in one spot.

Regardless, Battletech has plenty of canon weapons, there is no need for additonal ones at this point.

I cobbled together an Annihilator with quad RAC/20s and set the weapon group to cycle between each shot. That allowed me to continuously deal out rapid-fire AC/20 rounds without ever jamming.

It was more overpowered than the Halo pistol.

No, simple as that. There are plenty of weapons without including a game changer like RAC/20. you thought 3 Ultra ac/20s was bad? try two or three rac/20s on an atlas.

I do not believe they should add in the new made up weapons from MW4M. Even though they were a lot of fun and one of my most favorite mech configuration involved a Flea with a single Large Continues Beam Laser. Oh how I loved being the most ANNOYING thing running around as I will NEVER run out of ammo. If that pest didn't tick you off while I run around and basicly stick a laser pointer in your eye, then being killed by it will, I actually manage to kill a Behemoth in that Flea. Their was much celebration while people were falling out of their chairs do to laughing fits after that match.

Rockets are volley weapons, Missiles are not.

Let's get the balance on the Canon weapons first. Then we can fill in the blanks.

It's been a while so I could be mistaken but I recall the Thunderbolt depositing a mine field rather than acting as a MIRV launcher.

In any case, I'm all for canon weapons being included and any non-canon weapons should have a good hard look taken at them before deciding to add them.

But personally, I don't think they're really needed.

(Although I, personally never used them, RACs are awesome. :P )

The original Thunderbolt was a Solaris weapon first introduced in the Unbound source book, and was the basis for the Thunderbolt 2, 10, 15, and 20 that appeared in Tactical Operations. The original was basically a missile-form AC10 round, while the others paired LRM-style range with varying damage.

In MW4: Mercs the ArrowIV Thunderbolt is, essentially, a more powerful Thunderbolt 20 with no LRM-style long-range arcing flight trajectory.

Oh I just realised how that might sound considering it says I live in Belgium. I'm from the UK though, so I'm just poking fun at myself for the most part :P
