First, a brief background.

I have been a big fan of the MechWarrior/Battletech universe for a while now. I've actually played the paper and pencil table top game. I had a good friend growing up who was also into the same thing and we obsessed about the "custom" building our own mechs and played the strategic aspect of the game. It was like a glorified advance chess game. We would both give ourselves a week timeframe, and a maximum tonnage limit. From that we constructed our own mechs based on the rule books. We could mix match however we wanted. Use a 100 ton mech for example. Or bring it down to 40 ton and 60 ton. etc. And we crossed check each others build and when it was time we layed our our mechs on the map with a blind between the map to start before revealing our locations position.

We both played the MechWarrior game which was awesome. Programmed our own mech building software in pascal. ANd played all the mechgames. MechCommander. etc. (Battletech by Gamestorm/Kesmai).

Now- As a player, I really enjoyed the old DOS base game MechWarrior where the story was you travel different places and had a Lance. We got to recruit our own pilots and flled the roster and bought Battle Mechs. And took on contracts/missions to earn more money/salvage parts that eventually lead to Game Quest goals.

I think I would like to see this happen in the MMO setting, starting out as a mechwarrior but making your way up to the top. Maybe have a team of mechs and pilots to battle at Solaris or something. Winning battles, getting salvage parts, recruit/buying mechs, repairing, custom building them and find parts for them. Building the ultimate team is how I want to play.

Recruiting Pilots(companions) or even temporary Mercs would be fun. Having your roster of guys is like maybe Pokemon-ish (gotta find/recruit them all??). Finding the rare pilots and training them assigning skills and making each pilot fill different roles. Doing missions, dungones, etc, to get the money, and gears/parts/salvage to sell etc. Buying Battlemech shells or basic ones, and then with enough money or unlocks be able to customize. Customization means, finding the right parts/equipments. Epics. etc.

There's PVP aspects to this. PVE aspects to this.

I'm more of a one man kind of guy with my companions. But playing with others on missions would be fun too. And maybe the game can be designed for team work. Having live pilots might be interesting too but if they're not online, it sucks for going out and doing missions without pilots.

Possibly do what SWTOR is doing with having Companions, and if you do missions together with others but dont have a full group of real players, you can choose to take a companion with you.

Anyways, Thanks for reading. I hope this MechWarrior online game can deliver what I described above.

Scout/support ... relatively fast moving medium that skirts the field assisting the big mechs.

Either a scout role or Assault. I pretty much go from one extreme to the other.

Light recon, Harrasser, Flanker. Gimme a Locust, or Firemoth, and watch Atlas' knees shake.

Light/Medium mech for fast strike and retreat would be nice.

Great post mate. Everything you said there struck a cord with me. Did the same things growing up with the board game (no pascal programming though).

The story lines; I believe there should be be multiple different stories that a player can get involved with throughout the universe and many different ways to get there,

Its the story and role play, that differentiates Mechwarrior from Battletech.

I like to do a lot of different roles.

However I always tended to light and medium mechs because i liked a challenge :)

I tire of front line killing though so what i really like is helping my team succeed.

I want to be a support mech. Harrasser/scout/info warfare/jack of all trades/commander

I want to feel like i am making a tactical contribution not just crushing mechs (though that is mighty fun :D)

I tend to end up in the Atlas being the roadblock for the lance, and when I can get away from that role I grab my bushwacker and go swat some scouts.
