In the last interview, Russ mentioned that he initially resisted the label of MMO but not any more. He said that MWO does in fact have some MMO characteristics such as persistent universe and multiplayer online.

To me MMO means what it technically means, massively multiplayer online but thats a verrry broad term now. People then assume things like persistent world with thousands of players sharing the game space, instances and missions, role play features, and social gaming which MMO doesnt really imply.

From what i can tell, MWO will be a MMO-IPVP-PU.. MMO with Instanced Player vs Player battles, Persistent Universe with an unfolding timeline. Doesn't sound like its going to have massive game space shared by hundreds or thousands of players, or social-based features. It will have some roleplay features based on factions but not like character classes with missions.

Maybe a friendly dev can elaborate on this acronym? It would settle alot of peoples confusion about MMO or not MMO.

MMO's are characteristically what you stated there. This will not be a MMO, but will have some persistent qualities. This means statistics, maps, and numbers. No actual "world" to conquer or explore.

Sure MMO by definition means Massively Multiplayer Online, however it came with RPG games, where all characters interact and live in a evolving and effect filled world. If you just take the MMO part then counter-strike is a MMO as is Halo. Definition doesnt quite fit.

This is an Instanced F2P game. Since games have been evolving so much over the past 15 years they are slowly becoming once single type, you can see FPS games are slowly becoming RPG games, as are RTS games. Most games are incorporating online and persistant elements. This is confusing a lot of people, and a lot of definitions.
