GM rule #3. If it is carefully planned and something could go horribly wrong, such a thing can and probably will happen, and therefor should be planned against ahead of time. Counteract monkey wrenches with more monkey wrenches.

Well now, this is a very inactive thread. Allow me to fix that. I miss the good old days of 33 posts a day for me. Also, have fun:

It's go time!

Some clarifications:

Alpha Team is Nikoli, Remi, Sierra, and Revin. Alpha is attacking the comm relay, which is being guarded by an Archer, a Clint, an Axman, and a Commando.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Archer
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Clint
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Axman
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Commando

Bravo Team is Xinaoen, Barret, Chris, and Kazzen. Bravo is attacking the garrison; defenses consist of the two Jenners that are currently on patrol, in addition to numerous turrets and tracks. There'll be a lot more 'Mechs than that, though, if we don't act fast enough to stop them from mounting up.

Dirk and Meredith are the Support Team; they're hanging back in the middle to provide artillery fire.

From this point forward, I'll mostly stand back and moderate while the rest of you RP out the battle. I might throw in a monkey wrench here and there, but how the fight goes is primarily up to you guys. Feel free to take control of the defenders; if you're going to do anything crazy - such as adding in enemy reinforcements - just clear it with me first in a PM.

Have fun!!

EDIT: just a quick etiquette tip here for anyone who might be new to forum RP. People want to decide for themselves what happens to their characters. Telling someone else what happens to their character is called "Godmoding," and it's a bad thing!

Here's an example. If I think that the Clint should shoot my character, I'd just write "The Clint shoots my character." If I think that the Clint should shoot your character, I'd write "The Clint shoots at your character." That way it's up to you whether the shot connects or not.

Use your best judgment; if in doubt, just send a PM to the player in question and get approval before you post!

That sure is a goofy lance Xinaoen.... You roll that up randomly?

I can see the Axeman with the Archer, and I can see the Clint with the Commando. But I just can't see them all together.

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, I'm just curious.

The idea was that the locals have tried to assemble a fairly well-balanced lance from the sort of ragtag assortment of 'Mechs available to them. The Commando is a scout, the Clint is a skirmisher, the Axman is a brawler, and the Archer provides fire support. It might seem like they're kind of all over the place, but they've got most of their bases covered.

Well that makes sense... Umm.... You may want to change things up a bit, the Axman doesn't become available till '48.

Oh I meant to say, CG, I think your LRMs are out of range - we sitting between both points, I'd guess the distance at about 7-18 KM of each other (Xin hasn't stated for sure) and the LRM only has a range of about 2km IIRC?
Unfortunately you're not arty, so you don't quite match Dirk's OTT range!
Glad that people like the post though, when I started it I just wasn't ready to RP, but once I got going I got into it a lot more and ended up quite enjoying myself :P

Well since the 2 Jenners are out on patrol, probably close to getting back, mind if I add a lone Archer to the mix for Bravo? As in we would seem to overwhelm them quite easily.

So, without the "Is it actually an Axman?" argument unresolved, I've gone for "maybe". Maybe it's a prototype Axman four years ahead of its time, or maybe its a Hatchetman instead. They look very similar, in any case, so an Axman could easily be mistaken for a Hatchetman.

Whoops! Yeah, let's just call it a Hatchetman.
