My suggestion if it's not already in the works or been suggested by other members is to include the famous mercenary companies. In 3049 they were an intricate part of all the Great Houses before and after the clan invasion. Offer the option of players being able to join them as factions. Wolf's Dragoons, MacKarron's Armored Cavelry, The Kell Hounds, The Northwind Highlanders, The Eridani Light Horse, and the Grey Death Legion. Thank you for your consideration.

Including The Mercs

I imagine they WILL be including them... believe they've said over in the Merc Corp section that no "Canon" names will be allowed (correct me if I'm wrong anyone...)
As to joining them?? dunno... here's a bit from Dev Blog 1: Community Warfare
That could mean anything, but then again, it could mean membership to those Canon units (House or Merc) with ties to that players particular House Faction...

Faction Players
As a Faction Player, loyalty points are earned by playing and winning matches. As the player accumulates loyalty points, they will gain a military faction rank at pre-determined loyalty point totals. If a player loses LPs by decay or negative actions, they will be demoted.
Gaining ranks earns special privileges and items, including membership to special units, unit skins, and bonuses to C-Bills and XP. These are all non-permanent and subject to the player maintaining a certain rank level. At the highest possible levels, players can begin to influence their faction by controlling which planets are targeted in territory conquest.
