General principles then, Doesn't prevent ocular invasion by paintbrush though..., although that'll probably be on general principles as well.

...actually, now I'm not so sure: in addition to you, Thunderbolt/Mister Banzai, there's ALSO "b. banzai", the chap who started this thread and the TB here (and whom we all kinda 'co-opted' )...

...as well, we also have this "Dr. B Banzai", who hadn't poked his head in HERE around until that post you mentioned...and hasn't posted since - it's possible that that person is a regular TB who apparently has their previous callsign already squatted on by someone else, OR could just be a troll regarding this stuff here and could be referring to 'b. banzai' OR to you, but not seeing any further posts to clarify the situation leaves it just uncertain and ambiguous.

So either way, I'd get comfortable in your current handle if I were you, Thud, er Mr. B

Well, I also have something else to bring up, folks-

no, RELAX! It's neither Last Call, NOR time to pay yer tabs.

Today saw a rather pivotal - if nested inside a thread - announcement from Mr. Ekman regarding 'canon units'. It's good to get the nitty-gritty worked out and stated outright, but it still left things a little vague, if slightly worrisome for some prospective Merc Corps.

It's pretty clear that PGI would prefer all of us create original units with names that won't impinge upon existing canon mercenary units - at least to quell possible 'fanboi flame wars' over "whether the 12th Star Guards ever fielded Dragon 'Mechs" or similar, let alone run afoul of Trademark issues {not that Team Banzai ever caused that before *cough-cough*}

So that leaves this prospective Merc Corp in an uncertain position; one could argue that TB wasn't really pivotal in the 3050's, there IS the spectre of existing baggage that might cause...issues.

(empath's Patented Fun-Fact Tangent™ - didja know that Google currently points "Team Banzai" firstly to an electro-dance act in Oregon, then secondly and thirdly to the BIfAAW, then back to the 'Wet Coast Remixers' and finally to Buckaroo's fan club...not sure if proud or ashamed of that)

As such, I still think we should first apply for "Team Banzai", but we should have a specific alternate (or even list of alternates) on hand at the time...

"New Avalon Cavaliers" would probably work while "Hong Kong Cavaliers", "Blue Blazers" and "Radar Blazers" likely wouldn't, being published sub-units of the TB regiment. Maybe "Banzai Institute" or even "Banzai Institute for Advanced Armoured Warfare [BIAAW]" which, while is a bit of a mouthful, does abbreviate into something approximating a battlecry.

ANYWAY, anyone else got any suggestions?

I think that the "Blue Blaze Irregulars" would be a perfect fit. They have no mention on Sarna.net, and I only have a vague memory of them being in a book for all of two lines or so (memory of book read twenty plus years ago). Hopefully we can get Scooter Lindsey to lead us!

Yeahhhhh... but that offhand remark "implied association my result in Cust Svc requesting you change your name", and one of Team Banzai's three battalions is named the "Blue Blazers", which - depending on the individual judgement of PGI staff we don't know about yet, might be sufficiently similar to be disallowed.

Don't get me wrong, Mr. E made the right decision for the community as a whole, and I agree with him, and yes, it's not reasonable to press him to come out with finalized, empirical lists of what is permitted and what cannot be allowed (most policies like this end up evolving and developing over time into the best form).

...but circumstances leave us on the thin end of the wedge, and they also keep us there unable to make any plans with any certainty until such time as the Merc Corp applications open up and we find out what will fly.

[BBI] - Blue Blaze Irregulars does sound like a possible name I'm willing to keep in consideration.

...and now we can do little else but speculate, and wait...

On the issue of the cabana boys? Um...

...well, y'see, you'd been gone quite a while, and wage costs were mounting (you any idea what it's like trying to keep just the bar running smoothly?), and...well, I had to let most of them go. I still have Miguel; Lemur decided we'd have the wombats kept on the premises, and I tasked Miguel to be their handler...

...of course, I haven't seen him in a couple of weeks, though...which would time things around the sake-wombat 'vigorous interaction' incident.



At best, he may have been responsible for letting the furry ones get into Fury's stock (I'm leaning toward that because even OUR wombats would have trouble with the safe she was keeping her libations in) and just sloped off, or...

...well...I've got almost no sense of smell; do you smell anything...um, 'off', perhaps?
