All the clans suck from a freedom perspective - highly militarized hyper-heirarchal societies which place way too much emphasis on martial prowess (and not even useful martial prowess - the ability to win duels or other tiny scale conflicts) and turn their nose up at the little people who actually make their society run.

'Course now that I've written that, I realize it sounds a lot like the house nobility of the Inner Sphere too.

I haven't playn many mechwarrior games the most I have playn was the mechassaults and mechwarrior 4 though that's about it. i don't really have much of a good idea about these clans, and I wanted to ask what is the best one to you?

if you mean clans as in player made groups...i don't know, if you mean the cannon clans from battletech lore...the clan that must not be named. because kerensky's son was a ***.

Clans are for people who like Easy modo, stick with the Inner Sphere, it's where the real me are :D We don't need weapons that can fire further than the other teams so that we don't get our paint scratched, we close in and duke it out with axes. . or we will if they get implemented ;)

(Saying that though probably Smoke Jaguar ^_^ )

Woo, boy. Here is a nice can of worms you served up here. Rather than stir the pot myself, I'll just answer the question as asked.

"...what is the best one to you?"

I like the Ghost Bears. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Ghost_Bear

Fact.... I too like the Ghost Bears :D

smoke jaguar seems to have a bright future ahead of them you should really join them when the clans invade.

*SJ Hater/sarcasm detected*

At any rate the Smoke Jaguars survive well into the Dark Age era of the BattleTech Universe storyline. As far as gameplay goes....I would have to say that is up for you to decide Beef Jerkey. There is no "best" clan and is entirely up to personal opinion or preference. Don't mind the Clan/SJ haters that much and decide for yourself where best you fit when it comes to a BT based Clan. :( I wish you luck on your search.

Depending on where you have it Graefin, The Clanners may be there before you get your party started. But I'll bring my Atlas and we will dance the mambo with our pull top friends!

QFT

I agree, the game was FAR better (I mean Battletech) prior to the 3050 TRO. It was probably the atrocious artwork in that TRO that put me off to start with. Was a dramatic and unwelcome change to the backstory, and ... just yeah, I agree with you.

And TRO 2750 wasn't?

Interesting.

TRO 2750 was a tease. As a Mechwarrior you could not get any of those Mechs unless you got very very lucky and discovered a Brian Cache. TRO 3050 showed you Mechs that you will most likely be fighting against. It proved to you how inferior your 3025 Mech was.

Except most of the technology from TRO2750 had been redeveloped and used in the war of 3039...

As for how inferior 3025 tech was...um, yes? I would hope so? That was the entire theme of 3025 when Battletech came out wasn't it? Fall of the Star League, post apocalyptic, etc.?

In fact, didn't the First Edition state that the ability to produce 'mechs themselves had gone extinct?

Wolverines - Still out there Spinward/Rimward of the Davions IMHO.
Ghost Bears - 2 Leviathan capital ships and they picked up and moved EVERYONE in their clan back to the IS.
Wolves - Kerensky line (yup Natasha), Kell bloodline introduced and they beat the crap out of the Jade Falcons on a regular basis.

Factory lines were running by themselves with very little human interaction. No one know how to repair any major breakdowns.
