Thou shall not mention the Not-Named Game.

I liked MW4 alot. I had played through MW 3 and found it ok, but I think MW4 Mercs blew it out of the water. Yes, it definitely had it's ups and downs like funky balancing issues, but overall it was quite fun.

I fail to see why some of those are problems. If you're firing your jump jets, you become a flying target. Blaming the game for that is just nonsense.

Assault Mechs are meant to be powerful. It's kinda what they are designed for.

I don't see how lock-on weapons are too good. ECM, a LAMS, and using terrain to my advantage kept me pretty safe.

As for the RAC 20 and the rail gun, I fail to see what's wrong with them.

Overall I really enjoy MW4 Mercs as I mentioned above, but what I really hate is how freaking stupid your computer lances mates can be. Once on my last play through, I was on the Davion defense mission on Talon, protecting the Templar construction facility. Barely made it out of that mission alive, the assault lances and aerospace fighters having ripped apart my lance. I ended up having to fight the last gladiator and Highlander alone. Why? Because my entire second lance was faffing about at the beginning of the mission! I had told both lances overall and several times specifically to move up and engage. Nope, they were all too happy to sit right at the beginning of the mission, probably stuffing their faces while sitting in their cockpits.

The problem with jump jets is not that you can be hit easily, its that you can hit targets with greater ease than when running. Mechs jump way to slow and fluid...a 70 ton humanoid machine should be able to glide through the air so easily ;)

Assault mechs are made to be powerful, I know that, but MW4 took it was beyond that for some of them. And part of what made them too powerful aside from the armor being way off balance, was the fact that anything lighter than a large laser might as well do zero damage since thats about the effect they have and since assault mechs have all those nice big slots they are the only ones that can really boat heavy weapons effectively making them WAY more OP than they should be.

Not all lock on weapons are to powerful, Boated LRMS+Artemis and T-bolts/arrows are though...but its silly how the lock on weapons usually do about 75% of their damage to the CT (or leg if you jump to avoid).

Rail Gun is just pure cheese and outright silly... RAC20s are pretty broken. Just one wouldn't be so bad except that they shoot to far. But again, when there is a an Assault firing 4 of them at once? Ya.. thats pretty broken.

I still have alot of fun playing MW4 as long as its not a giant cheese fest and its especially fun with things like no respawn. Stock matches would be fun if the Stock summoner was not utter crap since it has nothing but light weapons...maximum damage output is less than half the damage of a Rail gun

MW4 is worthy of high praise despite what it may lack.

Its true that it wasnt a sim like MW3 was. It had more action (arcade) feel and accessible (easy) design but, more often than not, the combat was balanced, the code was secure, the people were fun, it evolved with updates, and it supported the online MW community during some dark times for BT. It was especially fun in its hayday on the Zone. Could it have been better? Sure but the devs and later Mektek worked hard to keep it evolving and improving. I have nothing bad to say about MW4. If anything, its a worthy game for starting players, its a survivor, its well cared for, its the old car in the garage you still love to drive even though the new car is being delivered next summer.

A bit off topic here, but so I take it the Mercs version is a legal, free version and not just a fan made mod, ripoff whatever? I was checking into buying it but Steam doesn't have it, and MS's own link is dead, so found mektek offering a download. I knew they had some kind of free version, but was looking for the actual game so as to have something to play around with.

He means it was easier to shoot while you were in the air than when you were moving on the ground. Jump jets actually stabilized you where small jumps made shooting a hell of a lot more accurate than just moving.

In Mercs they were ridiculously powerful compared to the other classes thanks to (mostly) decent maneuverability and a massive increase in weapon space. There was absolutely 0 reason to take anything lighter than 70 tons unless you were giving yourself a challenge, out to have fun, or were limited in drop weight. Even then the heavy configs were usually slowed down and armored to be like mini-assaults or pop tarters.

LAMS werepretty lame in Mercs in that it always destroyed the first set of missiles (LRM5 was useless, LRM20s turned into LRM15s, etc), but since they lacked ammo and didn't have to be turned on and off and generated no heat there was little reason NOT to take it. If anything the LRMs felt fairly weak unless you grouped at least 4 LRM20s together. ArrowIVs, however, were pretty damn powerful and provided a huge knock. They were the true long range missile threat. Still, I agree with you that lock-on weapons weren't overpowered (at least as of MP2, I didn't play much once MP3 hit).

The version released by Mektek is the full version of MW4 Mercs (including the campaign) but with the added Mektek weapons, modifications, and mechs. It definitely adds a lot to the game and is a worthy upgrade to the stock game. It was legally released by Mektek with an agreement from Microsoft, so don't worry, you're not pirating or anything. It's completely legit.

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response. I work in IT and given the nature of who I work for, pirating would be a great way to wind up unemployed.
