Well, it's neo-latin for a map.

Aye, late vulgar Latin very likely did use it, I am sure. I'd bet money on that being where it made it into English from, without checking for its etymology.

Nah man. If you're going to spoil everyone's day by calling them Atlases, might as well make it "at-LAZE-ees"~

I'm done trying to help you people. If you want to call out "Ataseeeeeeeeees in the cave" have at it. By the time you're done with your pronunciation me and my fellow ATLAI will have stomped you and moved on to your team mates who will just be becoming aware of your belated multisyllabic warning.

Given that I Coined the term (at least for those of us in BWC. I suppose someone may have simul-coined it elsewhere with no affiliation), I feel it appropriate to point out, that the origin was intended to be incorrect. I looked it up, and my proper (intentionally improper?) spelling is thusly Atlii. Though less visually appealing, it was spelled as such, if for no other reason, to be further from established words, with legitimate definitions. It also has an intended tongue-in-cheek similarity to the "plural of virus", virii (also erroneous), which I thought amusing given how utterly rampant they were at the time.
That said...

ATLII!

(edited for spelling?)

This reminds me of the discussion in German whether the plural of Komma is Kommata or Kommas.

I tend to compromise and say Kommatas.

So it's Atlaises.
