I think its more of wishing to be immersed with the game lore. Now of course, that is subjective but well I guess thats how some of us roll.

Personally, I also wish that I be able to join an existing canonical unit, it helps to make you feel a sense of belonging to that faction. But I want it to be on official capacity so I'm glad that the game is going to provide that, even though there isn't any real command structure in place (not that i want to be bossed around by someone who has more playtime than me). I don't fantasise about being some elite mechpilot however, i'll be just happy to be in a regular unit, so long as there is some official game structure to support that.

But if some of them wants to be a ryuken, then so be it. So long as the game actually make them WORK for it and they have to prove themselves to earn it. Not just because someone made a claim on that unit title earlier than anyone else.
