Wasn't Heavy Gear Activision's replacement for Mechwarrior when they lost the license?

Here's hoping they go back to a more balanced build system for this game.

Only as far as videogames go. heavy Gear is a tabletop Wargame much like Battletech (Mechwarriors originator) is.
This must be the year of the mech.

Wierdly enough, the 'just add stuff to a Gear, it ups it's threat rating but it can handle it' is canon in the Franchise. They describe it a a 'design system' rather than a 'construction system', the idea being as you dump more goodies on a machine you just have to use smaller, more expensive components. Munchkins love it.
Heavy Gear has the potentual to be a very cool title if done right, more fluid Anime style than stompy. I liked HG2 more than HG1 for this, HG1 did look like it was trying to be a MW title - totally the wrong way to go!
Of course, I'd love to see Jovian Chronicles from DP9 as a game but we're a little short on proper tech to do it well yet......
Gear Krieg (alternate WW2 superscience) could rock tho.

HG 1 looks like it was trying to be a MW title because IT WAS MADE USING MW2 engine..
back when they lost the license for Battletech, the developer basically had an engine they've used to make MW game but no series to use it on...
so... they did the simplest thing they could, they get another mecha series license and use the engine for that instead.
The result was the weird feeling HG1 has...
HG2 on the other hand was built more specifically for the game series itself rather than a quick reuse of the old engine.

Oh, I know. I've played the TT game. Super cool, but I liked the system better when you couldn't just instantly break it by loading up on laser gatling guns and insane missile pods. Maybe that's just my previous experience with the Battletech build system coloring my expectations.

This. This needs to be made. Either of them would be awesome, but I'm thinking Gear Krieg would be a lot easier. Also, space combat with mechs (ie, Jovian Chronicles) seems a bit too close to Gundam for most people not familiar with the setting to immediately tell the difference.
