I think it would be interesting if the first mech you get to own has a rusty paint job because its been sitting in a shed somewhere so that one of the first things you want to do with your combat earned cash is to paint her up. That is all ;)

All I am hoping for is that the playing field will always remain level, by not allowing anyone who donates to be able to upgrade their 'mechs and equipment as a result, other than the work they do in the game, or that could very well turn me away from playing (as much) much like it has other online games in the past.

To start in a 'rust bucket' as you say would pretty much seem standard, since that is how you started in MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries (with the Commando and worked your way up from there)

I think he means in appearance only. Like, the 'mech starts with a badly abused/worn texture.

I've always liked the way the novels described older mechs as looking "used and abused" but still menacing. Maybe in later downloads we will have the option of giving our mech some cool "scars".

I agree. I think 'battlescars' would be a good way to identify and individualize each mech.

Being matched based on battlevalue would help with that.

I like the idea of using some C-bills earned early in the game to do some basic aesthetic customization work on the mech.

There's always something I've found appealing about the whole "Here, use this until we/you find a better one" at the start of a game, then some days in you end up ruling everything with a titan-sized weapon of mass destruction.

I wouldn't be against starting of with a rusty, falling-apart mech to begin with.

For the record, I resent capellan designs being generally referred to as "rust buckets". Having said that and fulfilled my obligations as an ally, of course ours are way more shiny. :P

Regardless of match making system, I hope i get a totally old, rusty, next to useless, mech. I love being the underdog, or just ridiculous and attempting to kick ask.... at least until I can get my Orion or Champion.
