Sometimes we MechWarrior fans can have so much fun in coming up with our own ways to pilot our mechs from our PCs that it truly has become an art form unto itself. Just google "tesla pod" and it will prove my point and why i decided to post this in the "fan art" section here.

I'm making enough money with my job as a robotic welder that i'm going to be constructing my very own home made tesla pod specifically for MWO. For the moment, my current design idea is that the frame will be made of 2x6 wooden boards(spray painted black) and will be a 42inch LCD TV stand, a seat, a stool to put a rudder pedal kit on, another small stand to put my keyboard and mouse on, and possibly a third and fourth stand for a joystick/throddle kit.

I'm basically coming up with my own design from scratch because it's more fun that way. I've also googled for ideas based on flight simulator equivilants that people made for ideas so i'm not fishing for ideas

I'm just curious if there are any other MW fans out there planning on building your own tesla pod for MWO as well.

This is my current basic concept i got going for it:

When did TESLA tour with POD ...ROFL

To be honest Dr Death, I have a similar (but totally different in almost every way )plan, unfortunatly i cant show anyone the plans because im trying to patent mine. Nice work though... I would suggest a smaller screen because it becomes hard to spot stuff when u have so much to look at... I ran into the problem when i got my 27" screen. My kills in COD got cut in half because I had so much more to scan (it got harder to pick snipers out from long distance when they were behind glass windows). Ive recovered but it took a wile. At 42" your probably going to have to move your head to see somethings.

I agree with T0RC4ED in that the bigger the screen the slower of a response time(generally)you will have. I would absolutely love to have a Tesla Pod but am nowhere near able to afford one or building my own for that matter...

Yeah i'll keep the TV screen size in mind when i build it. I guess what i'll do is rent different size LCD tvs to see which size works best for me before i actually 'purchase' the TV that i'll end up using. I'm going to laugh if it turns out that you're right and i'll end up using the 19inch LCD screen that i have right now instead. XD

@TORC4ED whenever you get your teslapod patened i would looove to see what you got.

I know htis is a bit smaller then a 42" TV, but I have a 27" Samsung SyncMaster P2770 LCD Monitor with 1ms refresh, so you won't have to settle for a 19" monitor :D

There was a post started way back which did talk about Pods/Gameing Pits

The link above also has pictures of the Verion One Pod by Virtual World and the New Tesla Pods by Virtual World which is powered by the game engine in which Vitrual World teamed up with MekTek.

Here is a much more "evolved" version of my home made tesla pod. I finally decided that the stands that i'll have for the keyboard, mouse, joystick and throddle will be a separate piece of furniture and will be a small custom table. I'll base that table off the design of the "breakfast in bed" table designs you see in a hospital. I haven't designed that yet but it should be equally cool. I've designed the cokpit design below in a way so that everything is cusomizable in position. Also what looks like a chair in this pic is not actually a chair. It's just a jig that i'll use to place one of those gaming "boom chairs" you usually see at bestbuy or something. I can't wait for drafting school this fall so i can learn to use a CAD program. If i can do this much with the "paint" program i can't waid to see what a CAD program has to offer. I have no intention of patening this design. Ya'all can feel free to copy or reverse engineer my design for whoever is going to do something like this. :P

@Grafix yeah thx for the link to that thread. I've also seen a thread similar to this started in Mektek's forum as well. The existence of the tesla pod is what inspired me to make one myself. :)
