How about bringing in the stealth armor. I thought it might serve a recon purpose but should be detectable by footprints or something.
just wondering

They had a mech that was designed for that in the early books it was called a chameleon CH something it could mask its signature to resemble other mechs it was in the medium class range and packed mostly sensor equipment. Though lets face it when it actually came to game play your not gunna see an assault hauling butt through the woods still I think the idea behind both is sound. except optic camo wouldnt work with the radar system mechs use to track each other

Might be something to look into years down the road but let's keep it simple for initial launch and first couple of years as they slowly add to the game and adjust play balance.

stealth armor is definately in the lore, but its not till 3063. the Capellans created it.

We made it, you stole it, but that is really far away future. It's just real stealth, though. No invisibility if I remember right.

Amusingly enough, there is enough equipment that if you wished to be totally invisible (and had the criticals for it, though you probably wouldn't have much of anything else left) you COULD be if you ignored timeline restrictions, though as of "currently" there is no stealth armor.
This is assuming you don't bring in Star league era tech, if you did, you would have the null sig and chameleon light polarization device which working together seriously heats your mech up but makes you more or less invisible totally. Go further down the line and you get things like stealth armor, mimetic armor and the void signature system which is basically "You don't see me ever" unless you can't manage the heat. Granted, in the tabletop you still see the unit, the +3 to hit if it stands still is rather... significant, so I just consider the mech invisible predator style (even the image of the void system hints at it )

Not completely invisible but to IR senors maybe ...
this would be cool. However the armor protection should be reduced (something with 30 pts to 25 pts for specific section)

stealth armor might be cool, Wouldn't do much for being detected by LOS, but if the enemy is using IR and you are making good use of cover it might be worth the tradeoff of less space and having your mech get unseasonably warm. I could also imagine it'd make you slip off sensors much easier in regards to the data decay thing mentioned and make missiles have more trouble tracking. Not very useful in a brawl, but useful in a shoot and scoot fire support unit, scouts, and units that might want to flank from the hell out of nowhere
Light polarization shield is what made you quasi invisible, but didn't do anything to prevent electronics and other assorted sensors from picking you up. also made you run hot.
Null signature, didn't do anything for visual, but was a more dedicated self contained system than stealth armor for spoofing nonvisual sensors. The tradeoff being that part of masking your electronics meant that the sort of electronics you could carry were severely limited. and it also made you run hot.
void sig was a combo of light polarization and null sig, it masks you reeeeaaal damn good, but aside from running you hot, makes your sensors suck really bad due to how much they are shielded to prevent their signals from being easily detected.
of these, stealth armor is the only thing reasonably close timeline-wise. though how close PGI will stick to classic equipment release years is anyone's guess.
