Not making a poll as there are standardized paint schemes mentioned in the source material.

The matter would be is if we are going to have an unofficial list of what scheme is to be used by which unit(s). Hopefully we will see a wide variety of Blue/Gray schemes so that the Steiner units are recognizable as such but not entirely interchangeable.

This would go for the other Houses (if they are lurking) as well. But that's for them to sort out.

Would like to see such schemes as we find in Mechlabs as well as variants;
  • Parade
  • Camo
  • Subdued Parade
  • Urban Assault
  • Night Ops (very dark Blue/Gray, indigo/charcoal, etc)
  • Alternate Camo
  • Tiger Stripe
  • others as we think of them
any other ideas?

Go to www.camospecs.com
click on the Gallery tab and select house steiner Lyran Alliance. There you will find all sorts of parade schemes for almost every unit.

Yep, saw it, thanks. It was the schemes there that prompted this question about how/if Steiner related units could be identified as Steiner units and whether we as a community would like to see it enforced through gentle peer pressure.

As long as there's something to distinguish my beloved Rangers, I'll be happy. Especially if it can go so far as to differentiate the 4th.

As with all Skye Rangers, red and black dominate the color scheme used by the Fourth, with green highlights serving as their signature.

Don't know about you guys, but that sounds like a nice paint-scheme to me! :D

EDIT: Should have looked at that site before. Thanks, @SMDMadCow!

The other month I painted a Rommel tank special for an RPG campaign we were doing. I did it up like the Edelweiss from Valkyria Chronicles since I love the game. Funny story, my GM decided to stick us in the Donegal Guards and it turns out I hit their colour scheme. (Light blues and greys.)

Oh, you want every Steiner soldier in the same paint then? I don't think thats going to fly as there are so many different units with different colors that people will want to play as.

Never said "Same paint". Please re-read it. Several blue/gray schemes are listed. Would hate to fire on a red/black paint scheme thinking it was Kurita only to be yelled at by a Lance mate.

The top one strikes me as too blue, the others less so; this is what I'm referring to.

Yes you are right. I wonder how much freedom there will be in terms of colours or if it will be quite strict and follow those already established for Lyran units and ranks (http://www.sarna.net...Arcturan_Guards). Hopefully its still flexible so conquering different terrain is adapted to.

I dont care to have to choose only paint that is house approved. as long as I have the fist on my mech any paint is good paint.

Aren't golden trims there to signify rank\unit?

Golden trim on a Steiner blue mech signifies a member of the Royal Guard.

Hm, I am sure that friendly fire will not be completely avoidable in close combat situations that take place in major battles ... methinks, one may have to rely on a friend/foe weapon target cross/indicator more than on the colour scheme or insignia chosen for a certain house mech unit ... I wonder if there will be means to interrupt or to jam the targeting system of enemy mechs, that could be fun and very useful (on scouting missions) :-)? I still believe camouflage is more important (i.e. desert paint scheme without or with very little use of blue) for the game (hopefully, it will make a big difference, so that well-camouflaged units cannot be detected in the environment on direct/first sight unless via sensor scans) than a friend/foe distinction based on color ...

I think parade camo should be an option, even though it would be very rare for a unit to actually fight in parade camo (unless they are on ceremonial guard duty or get hit by a surprise attack during a parade)
