Actually if they do it right, you'll be happy to...and it won't affect anyone else.

No. What Kaemon said in his reply to me.
What most of us are hoping is that the microtransaction store will ONLY feature "fluffy" stuff. Things that you can buy (like a hula girl) that adds a personal touch to your 'Mech but DOESN'T give you any in game advantages at all.
We're also hoping that if they do add in purchasing mechs and/or weapons, that you would still be able to purchase those same mech/weapons with in game currency (In this case C-bills) as well. The guy that purchased it with real money just gets to get it faster but isn't the only one that's able to get it just because he plunked down X amount of dollars.

I'm happy now.

No one is expecting a micro-transaction for custom paint jobs to throw the game out of balance. Also not expecting a few non-weapon items (CASE, etc) to be overpowering either except in the hands of someone that can put them to extremely effective use.
It will come down to what the average player can do with it. A highly skilled player in non-Star League, IS tech will smoke the poor player in Clan tech. Play testing will determine what can be introduced via micro-transactions and what will be added as a player base wide upgrade.

OP supports me! I'm not a troll!
Anyway, I'll just reiterate what a previous poster said. The devs will be working on a way to make paid-items not be game-breaking. Free-loaders won't be stuck in Fleas while the moneybags kick us around in Atlases. Personally, I wouldn't pay for 'Mechs or weapons. That sort of thing can be lost in battle, and there goes your money. I would purchase trivial things like hula girls and new paint schemes for my 'Mechs, so long as I got to keep them. Otherwise, I would work in-game for my stuff, which to me is the way it should be.
Added to that, more than anything I want to support these guys. If it was a $60 game released on PC, I'd have pre-ordered it by now. Star League Special Edition for $120, even. This is my favorite fiction of all time. Not only my favorite video game, but my favorite created work, period. I got a Kindle over a Nook because the former has a large number of BT books available. That was my deciding factor, and it was an absolute one. I started when MW3 was old, and MW4 had just come out. I found Endgame in a bookstore, picked up Falcon Rising, and not long after, the Jade Phoenix Trilogy. The point is, these guys are resurrecting a franchise that I love dearly. A franchise that I thought was killed by Micro$oft's decision to go with a console-based, arcade-style game when FPS-fever had really begun. When I found MW4: Mercs for free, I latched onto that like a drowning man. It was going to savor it like the last morsel of food I'd ever have. If the devs manage to do what they're setting out to do, I will gladly just send them money because they saved (in my mind) the best work of fiction ever created. Paint jobs, hula girls, Star League 'Mechs? Secondary. These guys are going out on a limb because they love the series. And I love the series too, so they're getting my support, one way or the other.

tl;dr: You only pay if you want to. Paying real money won't give a distinct advantage, according to the devs.

Hey, age doesn't matter, man. If you've got the spirit and the grit (not to mention the skill), then you can be a MechWarrior. I was like that when I started (and was a little younger than you), and I've barely played any BattleTech (nobody around to play it with, and I couldn't find the stuff locally anyway). Generally, when I say "BattleTech," I'm referring to the fiction as a whole, or the book series.
ANYWAY, you're still the OP, so your post is to be respected and should create the flow of the thread. Had I derailed the thread to talk about currencies and whatnot, then I'd be disrespecting you and the forum as a whole. Your question was valid, and I sort of ran away with an idea that suddenly popped into my head, vaguely in-line with your question, since you mentioned C-bills. You, in turn, were kind enough to support my idea and not be offended by my slightly off-topic spiel. Regardless of your age or amount of affiliation with MechWarrior/BattleTech, it's always a huge plus to have good manners on the internet.
