I suppose the Outworlds Alliance would be ok too, but I'm sure it would be more boring.

Also Hanseatic League. I used to play the Hansa in EU3 a lot.

I love their heavy reliance on fighters. "Why should I bother with ground forces if I can blow up any attacking enemy before he even gets close to my planets"
They are so awesome pilots that the other periphery nations hire their pilots as trainers on their academies, and even some great houses do that. And they beat up some clan snow raven pilots in a space battle. Considering the huge difference in tech between a periphery nation and the clans that is like shooting down a F-16 while flying a Spitfire.

Well, that depends on what you mean by The Republic. Free Rasalhague Republic? Republic of the Sphere? or Rim Worlds Republic? lol The FRR is still around, but something tells me theyre gonna have a bad year. The RotS hasnt occured yet, about 35 years too early for that. RWR has been dead for like 300 years.
Hope that helped

Xenophobia aside, the Concordat's aim to improve the lot of its' citizenry was also very cool.

Taurian Concordat is fun too. Highly educated they have a large number of universities and public libraries. They also come up with their own mech designs and weapons. (Well the rocket launcher isn't all that special, but it is a new weapon.) And who doesn't like running up to an enemy and unloading 100 missiles in their face.

Feared/Courted by two Houses. Unwittingly produced Pirate king after Pirate king. First to toe-to-toe with the clans. Always a good plot device for the novels.
Would have loved to see their alliances work out making them the new northside Capellan Confederation.

Marian Hegemony, is one of my favorite realms. Despite one despot, Sean, the other rulers of the Hegemony did nothing but improve the Marian realm from a handful of backwater worlds into a major Periphery power in just over a hundred years. Marius O'Reilly shifted the economy from a pirate kingom supported economy, colonized several new worlds, and founded the Collegium Bellorum Imperium (Imperial War Colllege), which became the second finest periphey academy behind only the Canopian Institute of War.
Unfortunatley Sean O'Reilly, Marius son, turned the Hegemony from a Republic into more of a dictatorship. He expanded the Marian Armed forces from one legion into three and eventually invaded and conquered the Lothian League. Luckily Sean's reign was short lived as his son, Julius gained support from both the military and civilian bases and after conquering the Illyrian Palatinate returned home to depose his father. Since then Julius has returned alot of the rights his father removed and is slowly shifting the Hegemony back to the Republic style that both his grandfather Marius and the founder Johann, hope the Hegemony could be.
For such a small nation it has come along way in a short time. Over the course of 20 years(3048-3067) its military increased from one legion to six, roughly 8 conventional battlemech regiments. Like a fellow Hegemony supported stated, its gotta be cool as heck to climb out of a mech and be refered to as Centurion.

Would be happy with any one of several choices but OA has allways edged it for me and I like their unique preferance for aerospace over landbound mechs. Their merging with my favourite clan ties things up nicely for me later on too. Marian Hegemony also deserves a mention but then so do several of the other periphery states as well.
