just wana know what kind of population we are looking at so far.

sorry for being vague, how many have signed up by securing their call sign. as in how many people do you think have declared that they will play mechwarrior online. just looking for a rough estimete or exact number as of now would be fine to.
not sure if 44,246 Total Members is the number i am looking for, but if it is, question answered.

Um... signed up for what? :P This forum? A potential closed/open beta? To support MWO no matter what? To have the lovechild of any given PGI dev? :)

One thing to note, total forum members is not an exact count of actual members. Those are just active forum members, the larger count is much much higher!

True, but I believe the higher number PK is referring to are the lurkers, temps, and folks who just don't want to, or can't, be sucked into 10,000 conversations at a time.

EDIT: If they are reading this, and they want to play, they will have to register for a pilot name before the game goes active.

Thats not the impression I got. I thought your pilot name and your forum name are one in the same account. Therefore there are 44,246 accounts regardless of who is posting. Additionally, Im willing to bet that MANY people have registered more than 1 account name to reserve their favorite names so the 44k is actually inflated by, Im guessing, between 10% and 25%.

Maybe a mod or an admin can elaborate.

I can't quote specifics because we lowly mods are not privy to that information. I also can not say whether the number of people signed up are ACTIVE posters or TOTAL posters as I am not privy to that information either.

What I can tell you is that PGI does have a way to detect multiple accounts registered to the same individual.

That is all I know.

You could petition Khan Ekman though that you lowly freebirths who fight the "good fight"™ on behalf of Clan Piranha on the forums on a daily basis might need a bit more intel... :)

You know, I don't think any of us have ever asked what the actual numbers are. I guess it doesn't make any difference, really, in the execution of our daily servitude duty so really isn't at the top of our list(s).

We can leave the harvesting of all this critical information to the news guys and their sources :P

Excellent that’s good to know. What's cool is that these current numbers (whatever they are) are simply the tip of the iceberg. When the game is launched they will of course skyrocket.

Thanks, Mason. I was worried that the forum numbers were susceptible to a large margin of error due to people being able to create multiple accounts.
