I'm looking for the default keyboard layout for MWO. I thought I saw it once in an FAQ but can't seem to find it again?

use the arrow keys up down to select a weapon, use the left and right keys to select a number, press the Right Control key to assign and unassign the current weapon to the current group

if that makes sense?

You can reassign the keys in game. Menu (bottom left), Options, the keys are on the right.
