well as i am from franken (northen bavaria) my taste in beer is a bit of the norm for most ppl but if you ever come here you gotta try some fässla bräu (personal favorite)
if it comes to asian beer i think sapporo is one of the most best
havent tried much american beer except for the bigger companies and they mostly shocked me
servus was a pretty decent russian beer i tried once and guinness was the best irish
from the more northern parts of gemany i like valkyrie bräu (perhaps the best honey beer i tried till now) and faxe also is a nice beer
and Mechduster you dont have to play drunken but after an epic victory a good beer can hit the spot ;-)

My absolute personal favorite is actually from a local craft brewery. It is a black IPA by the name of Darkwater, named for the tannin-colored rivers that flow through the surrounding area of my hometown. It is the best of both worlds, with a rich, floral hops taste, and smooth malty finish. It's seasonal though, so I don't get to have my fill year-round (which might be for the best, really :D).

Another favorite is Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous black IPA (if you haven't figured out, I LOVE black IPAs). It's a bit on the rare and pricey side though at $10 for a pint.

I also find it hard to go wrong with anything Sierra Nevada brewery is involved in.

Personal favorite import is Delerium Tremens. Though this is a rare treat as it REALLY breaks the bank at $16 for 4 12oz bottles.

Duchesse de Bourgogne (if i can freaking find it) it's like beer caviar. (some places nearly $8 U.S for a 10 ounce bottle)

Leinenkugels Sunset Wheat is a great fruity wheat ale that is extremely refreshing and blows the more common Shock top and Blue moon out of the water. (Especially on tap but then again what beer isn't better on tap)

Also Kona pipeline porter is a favorite of mine. Beer that tastes like a good dark rich cup of coffee yes please.

And my cheap favorites are Peroni Nastro Azzuro and Dos Equis Amber. Both are good for just anytime drinking.

Ok, Now I have to chime in... As far as beer goes, I have yet to find one that actually tastes good to me, and seeing how I drink for the taste and not the buzz, that's what matters to me. Especially since it takes three Fifths of vodka just to get me buzzed...(I blame my dad's lineage).

I do prefer hard ciders, mead, and some liquors though:
Angry Orchard is pretty good when its cold,
Ace Apple is better though,
any nice Honey mead, where you can actually taste the honey from it is good,(the only thing that will get me buzzed in less then 2 bottles[12oz]),
any smooth cherry mead,
and then finally, Crystal Head Vodka.

Need I say more?

New Belgium's 1554 is fantastic. I really like Abita's Turbodog, as well, but 1554 is about...20% cooler.

Dark beer flavor without being heavy, that's what I look for.

Then again I usually drink OE 'cause it's really cheap.

A worthy topic for my first post on this forum!

My favourites are:

German Beer:

Aktien Zwick`l - A beer with a rich body, unfiltered
Schlappe Seppel dark - a tastefull beer
Krombacher - good to meat, pizza etc. but of course also without any solid food.
Altenmünster hopfig herb - a beer with a strong hop note
Kulmbacher Kellerbier - another unfiltered beer, also good but slightly behind Aktien Zwick`l.

Czech Beer:

Gambrinus - a beer with a nice mix of hop and malt flavor
Krusovice - a wonderfull beer with a slight hop note over the malt

Polish Beer:

Tatra - strong beer with 6,0% but so tastefull

That are basicly my favourites - but i have never tasted american beer so far.

I'm an American so I can say this. You are not missing much as far as American beer is concerned, sorry to all the Bud drinkers. Take heed of his list and buy some real beer. The Germans have it right on this subject.

I didnt have a chance to look through all of everyones recommendations but the local brew where I am from, Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, which is central Canada. The beer in question is all half pints beer. Check any of them out but the best is there st james pale ale. It is smooth and has a citrus finish. Also there IPA is nice. Has a good funky ipa taste. So there u go if you ever see any Half Pints get them.

I have tried and liked so many of the beers that have been mentioned here. But I'm not picky; I will drink just about anything that is not overly hoppy. If you enjoy Ruination then you are far manlier than I am!

My local grocer lets you buy a six-pack of any six random beers they have available, so I love getting those and cracking open a new beer after a long day.

I am kinda surprised no one has mentioned either Shiner Bock or Land Shark. Those have gotta be two of my favorites!

wow, 3 pages in and no comments from an Australian.....time to change that

we have a good craftbrewery culture in Aust right now which is great but i still haven't really come across many good brews as of yet. So my choice for a nice drop is
Hoegarden white beer - belgium.
Nice unfiltered white beer that has a light hoppy flavour with nice citrus flavours to it. Served best on a hot summers afternoon with a slice of orange in it (or lemon)
For local australians Bluetongue is a nice lager style filtered beer with a shot of lime flavour already in the bottle which lightens the overall experience and makes it very easy to keep drinking them.
Little creatures (in the port of freomantle in Perth) is also a very good local brewer which make a nice wide range of quality drops - if any of our international friends see them in their local bottelo give them a shot and i think you'll be pleasently surprised.
