Just want to give a shout out to all the gamers in Western Washington who have survived the great Stormapalozza of ice and snow today! if you are one of the 270,000 w/o power, then welcome back when you get power back ;)

Personally I have about 5" of snow with about an inch of ice on top of it.

For those of you not from Washington, you can see the pictures here http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Photos-An-icy-day-in-Western-Washington-137674313.html?tab=gallery&c=y&img=0

Born and raised on the dry side. Get the west coast tv station package to stay up on the news from "back home". Went thru the one a few years back when living in Lakewood. Not fun as people couldn't grasp the concept of drive slow or not at all.

Stay safe, all my Wershington 'Mech buds.

Oh stop whining, it was -30 degrees degrees fahrenheit here yesterday. The snot in my nose literally froze while I was taking out the trash, in my sandals.

It wasn't so bad here at the eastern Capital, got less than a foot but we are looking at freezing rain today/tomorrow. Of course, the walking in this powder snow is a pain.

The passenger door on my car froze shut today, not the regular had-to-be-thumped-on-for-a-while before it would open frozen shut, but the had to get in from the driver's side, move the center console, and kick it open from the inside kind of frozen shut. Wipers completely barried and frozen. And the windows were covered in 1/6 inch of ice that couldn't be scrapped off with a regular plastic window scrapper/snow brush, even after using both hands and leaning into it with my body weight, the edge was actually blunted by the ice...

wasnt so bad here, although last night my bus never came (1.5hrs i waited)
So I could drag my *** home and de-ice the car. -I also had to get in on my passenger side and kick my driver door out.
Got to work around midnight woot.

Now it's my weekend off and it's all melting away :)

And I thought there were no good winters in USA, only Canada.
You are still miles away from Scandinavian winters, but you've beaten us.
Bad for me, since I love snow and every year, there's less of it. :)

P.S: What caused this? I don't think Washington had seen anything like this before. Unnatural, woot. :)

P.P.S: Nuclear winter? Maybe.

@ Adridos

There is a man in Anchorage who builds a snow man each year, that is so big that it breaks zoning laws and the city ask him to remove it. Like 12+ feet tall. lol

What actually caused it was that we had a big snow here on last tuesday night. Some parts of western washington got over 2 feet of snow (and yes Viking we know it is not Alaska snow ;)) and then on Wed night into Friday morning it stayed below freezing on the temps but a rain storm moved in over giving us the freezing rain for about 24 hours. You are right it doesn't happen very often, i remember the last one in 1997. These storms are very rare for us as was the snow. We usually might get 1 or 2 inches of snow every year and it is gone by the next day so this storm shut down most of WA plus we still have people without power :D
