Hi guys!

I hope everyone's been enjoying the BETA! I sure have...

Now, we all know at this point what this game and it is NOT and MMORPG.... which brings me to the following question: What if?

The thing I am curious to know is, what would you guys like to see in a potential Battletech Universe MMORPG / MMORPG or MMO-Simulatior... whatever you wanna call it.

Features? Functionality? Professions maybe?

ALSO: How much? With the numbers that were released a few weeks ago, we can all see that the Founders Program was a HUGE success. The next question is, considering that a lot of people went for the $30 / 60 / 120 packages for a F2P game, how much would you be willing to contribute to help developing such a game (MMORPG)?

Thanks for your input!

I'm not really looking for MMORPGs anymore. I'll play a good one if it comes out. However, I'd rather play a game like LoL/WoT/MWO all things being equal.

mmo=catering to large numbers of people=dumbing down the game

no thanks.

i'm sure if there ever was an mechwarrior mmo, there'd be retarded emotes and taunting gestures for the mechs.

I totally agree that most MMO and FPS do dumb things down, which I am totally against. I used to play WoW up until the first expansion, where they normalized everything, then they started changing the game more and more to target the so called "casual" player....

I think a niche universe like Battletech would have potential to deliver agood MMO experience, just like EVE Online is able to...

There is enough advanced knowledge/material in the game (mechs, technologies, physics, engineering, natural resources, planets, clans, etc....) that most "newbs" would be turned off by the learning curve (see EVE) which would leave the niche players as a vast majority in the game.

I was just trying to gauge the interest of the community and see who would support such a project and point out what would be a good direction and what would be the big no-no's

Hmm would be a nice thing to see I believe, there's a huge cenario to work with, and equally huge mount of stuff to work of it outside the mechs.

A hard point would see how work around big battles on that system, how work with mechs, mechanized cavalry, airspace forces and space battles around. How deal with infantary side by side with that kind of giants?
Would require a lot of work to make all these systems, but would be a game I definitely would want to play.

Maybe cool if they had Aerotech and ground forces like tanks, especially if it look like Macross Zero fights.

Perhaps something similar to EVE in that you, as a pilot, don't have a real presence in the world aside from a staging area and can change your loadouts before deploying a mech. The little "walking around in person" hubs could have various people on the planet/station that have problems (missions) you can go do?

I don't know, it would be really hard to do well and if whoever makes the MMO is just putting a MW skin on WoW, I wouldn't play.

If it would be a true sandbox in the style of Eve Online and not a WoW clone, I'd say hell yes. There's nothing inherently wrong with those, but there are -enough- of them around and the setting is a far better fit for the sandbox experience.

Alternatively, once they build a good strategic/metagame level for MWO, they could theoretically build up on that later with various RPG elements. I doubt that's the way it'll go, but one can hope.

Basically: Eve Online mixed with Planetside.

You are a warrior, originally without allegiance but you can join the houses or a merc-group or be a lone merc or maybe even a bandit (all groups player-driven ofc), you start off with a hovercraft or maybe only with some body armor.

You can train skills by use, all different mechs, different vehicles, aircraft etc.
When your vehicle gets destroyed, you have to buy a new one (unless your house has some standard equipment), which should be quite steep in price so its a deterrent (or you can just get some grenades and fight on foot)

And then, let the galaxy wide war get started :P

While I think that MW has a great universe, I think this game is *almost* as good as what we could get. I would add visual lobbies with human avatars, but that would be as close to an MMO that I would go.

Slightly off topic, I think that Heavy Gear would lend itself to the MMO formula better.

I like how they did this with STO, you can interact with other players quite easily.
We could have hubs for every faction out there:

Houses: faction homeworlds (Luthien, Tharkad, etc)
Mercs/Lone Wolves: Outreach
Solaris could be a neutral hub for all IS players.
Clans: Clan flagships or possibly Strana Mechty as a shared hub.

What I'd like to see in a MW MMORPG is the total absence of one.

The biggest problem I can see with trying to get a Mechwarrior MMO going is the scale working against any developers. Think about it, we have literally thousands of worlds on the map, what becomes the deciding factor in which worlds get to go live and which don't? Could such a game really do the universe justice if it only has, say, 10 worlds to play on? Would it even make sense to have raiding missions against Tharkad if you start on Luthien, for example, just because of the sheer time involved in making any number of border worlds to play on instead?

This is sort of being done with Eve's DUST. I don't see why something like MWO couldn't evolve into a mmorpg as time unfolds. It really depends on how this all kicks off and what the devs have instore for us community warfare wise. We will all just have to wait and see. :P

A game that contains all aspects of warfare in the BTU would be great. Having an avatar and being able to explore the spaceport/cities of whatever planet you're on would be interesting. Then again, I wouldn't want to hear all the crying when infantry takes down mechs.

I wonder if a FPS/RPG hybrid based on a time of war would be feasible.
Assuming the focus would be more on infantry... Sneaking into enemy bases and blowing up stuff would be awesome, then again, running away from mechs with no way to fight back not so much.
