i have said very similar things in other threads
people were not very impressed but its clear i just am not as able as the OP when it comes to expressing myself
i direction PGI is taking Mechwarrior is nothing short of glorious
you can see their skills, dedication and love oozing from every scrap of intel they release
hell , how many other companies have a writer creating news reports about the minute goings on from their game realm... on a daily basis
yeah thats right nobody
perhaps its observations like that, or that i see that the devs are bigger fans than any of us, or maybe even my own 3D arts background
what ever the reason i cannot be anything but excited to see any of FD's redesigns
whats more they are just concept art thus far, we are yet to see what the 3D artists can do with the designs
i for am so very glad to see Mechwarrior getting its own unique look and feel, like it deserved 20 years ago
id also be keen to see this new style start leaking over to Battletech so it might be complete as a whole
but first things first, that can wait until MWO has smashed its way through any opposition and PPC'd them into a jealous submission

I like the 80s designs of BT, but the new designs bring in a fresh breeze that's quite welcome.
You always need to remember: Back then, they didn't have graphics tablets or photoshop.
CAD programs cost ten thousands of dollars and were clunky, arcane beasts.
Also, industrial design was pretty much fresh out of the crib back then.
For their time, the designs were revolutionary.

I'm loving the new Warhammer, Warhammer IIC, Marauder IIC, and warming up to the new Marauder (even though the mini is a pain to put together)
All we can do is enjoy this artwork, just like those that love the older stuff. FD did great on the Hunchback, Catapult, and DAT Atlasssssss. *puts sunglasses on*
Finally! Someone who agrees with me!
Tabletop BTecher here and for the record? The original Unseen designs were, for the most part, pretty horrible. Phoenix Project was a near-universal improvement IMO.

I hear you, when I got back into battle tech I was majorly dissapointed with the desgins from the early days. The more mechs I saw the more I disliked them. I sometimes question why was a design drawn in such as basic, unrealistic, polygon style manner. Did it used to look good like that or were the designers just fans with no experience

However, hats off to the designers who are making the new generation.

Honestly, this is Battletech's TRUE issue. Different fans jumped on at different points for different reasons. The original, and I mean ORIGINAL tabletop players had nothing but anime Unseen mechs. It was whaty drew us to the game. Then you had the mish mash of different art styles that arrived with each TRO. The Clans arrived. Then Unseen were gone. Then Mechwarrior 4 arrived. Then Project Phoenix. Then Mechwarrior Darkage and the Jihad. There are 25+ years of different groupings of fans out there.
Think about that! It's amazing so many people from so many different viewpoints love the franchise art for so many different reasons. But trying to develop a game out of that . . . that's not easy. Project Phoenix was the first major attempt at rebooting the franchise art, and it bran smack into the wall with this. I and many other orginal table top players HATED most of the art. MWO's art, on the other hand, is becoming universally loved. I'm seeing many people that loved PP (as well as hated it) coming together and freaking out at how awesome the art is. If the artwork can bring that many disparate groups of fans together, hopefully the game will as well.
[Note: I'm not expecting the world's most awesome gameplay here. I just wanna blow stuff up in giant robots with modern graphics. As mentioned before, if this game doesn't even make it to the finish line, it will have gifted the franchise some of the best artwork it has ever seen. If we make it, however, and it is playable . . . that's bonus for me. Better to be pleasantly surprised than rudely awakened. It's happened too many times to me as an indie game developer, let alone game fan.]

Love the new Centurion, always thought the old one was one of the worst designs in the game and refused to bother playing it on that reason alone. Panther is in the same boat. Wyvern and Hitman are stupid looking mechs too.
I liked the old Jenner, I thought it looked like a cool unusual mech.
