Less Mechs is better. Craft them. Love them. Balance them. Unbalance them. Make all the window shapes different. Add a ding under the console. Make each Hud look totally different. Put Hula girls in them. Make them special. Then spend 3 months making another one. Sell it to me for money. See Bob over there? He's been drooling over a Raven for 20 years. Don't give him a Spider that's a chickenwalker, give him a Raven that he can see as "his special mech". Getting into an MWLL mech and thinking "Wait, which mech was this agian?" Should never ever happen again.

If there's 20 mechs in the game, you know they're all gonna run about/look about the same from the inside. Quite a few MW4 Mechs are litereally small tweaks on another chassis. Do we want MechPr0n or do we want our simulated dreams? Quantity isn't Quaility. Mechs controls should be so different that you'll spend a month "Mastering" one before trying another. That's what I hope.

I agree. I spent the better part of my MechWarrior 2: mercenaries career customising and shaping my Crab into that 'special something' to which I grew to love and cherish above all other 'mechs and it became so a part of me that whenever it got so badly beat up and I had no choice but to eject from it, I spent a period of mourning its passing instead of taking the easy way out and reloading from a saved game, before moving on and breaking in a new 'mech. No matter what I did with a new Crab 'mech, all of the customising, learning the controls etc it just was never the same as my old beloved Crab to which I spent so long with. Kind of like your first car. All of the little chinks and scraps, the damaged heat sinks or faulty radar; the scorch marks in the armour - all of it can never be replicated exactly and that is what gives your 'mech its personality. There can never be one you adore as much afterwards.

Quality, not quantity.

... I miss my cherished Tarase

I highly expect that during Mech Warfare month, we will get a (comparatively) large reveal of mechs. I expect around 16-18 mechs on release.

As a matter of fact 12 Mech' chassis doesn't necessarily equal 12 Mechs. You now how many canon variants alone the Centurion and Catapult can bring to the table? Thus even if we end up with, say speculatively, 12 different chassis at start only, that could still easily mean 30+ different Mechs to choose from

I'd be rather disappointed with just 12 mechs. 12 mechs and hundreds if not thousands of people is going to lead people to get sick of seeing the same chassis over and over again. Battletech has hundreds of mechs and this is the perfect time to let them all shine. No, I'm not saying have all the time period mechs be in at the start. I mean build up the motor pool over time. I'd like to see closer to 20 at least for the launch.

Keep in mind in past MW titles there were only on average between 14 to 20 at initial stage. Lower to me speaks of quality. Besides in a few months 5+ Clan chassis get dumped on us. This time will help me get more intimate with a given chassis. I seem to remember a certain something about having "Chassis Loyalty" from the initial design concepts. I'm still hoping they keep it.

Is this a trick question?

Yes, yes it is. There's no such thing as "enough MechPr0n".

On a serious note though, the entire game started with just a little more than 12 chassis back in '84 so I don't see why MWO starting out with "just" 12 chassis would be seen as a bad thing. The official count is that there is well over 500 unique makes of `Mechs now, with variants pushing that number to over 5,000 different models the last time I looked so I'm not really worried about starting out slow.

It is hard to guess how many they will have at release. They could only have those 12 mechs avb at start, or those are the only ones they show us till the game starts then we log in and find more mechs available....or the 12 they show us are the base mechs avb to us. As your xp grows your earn enough game credits more mechs will unlock for us to use. just my thoughts.

12 is too low number for me. I know mech customisation will enhance diversity, but 12 is just too few. 20 mechs would seem better.

i´m fine with 12 mechs from the start, just because of whats written above: quality and longterm-motivation.... if we head for 20+ mechs at launch, too many childs have to be raised, more possibilities for bugs/ unbalance exist... and what i clearly expect is, that every mech will its own special "character", its own feeling while piloting it, and the less mechs we have at launch, the more likely the devteam can realize that...

sure, i´d like to have the whole arsenal...Warhammer= LOVE; Marauder= Love; Battlemaster= Love; Raven, Jenner, Archer, Catapult, Guerilla ( i know wrong time^^) just to name a few of my fav´s ... but i can live with getting them by time... my biggest concern right now is: how would get all the money i need to build my mech-cockpit with panorama-displays and all those fancy control-stuff ^^

My guess for the "12":

Jenner
Panther
Spider
Hunchback
Centurion
Trebuchet
Catapult
Orion
Dragon
Awesome
Cyclops
Atlas

These are some of the more common chassis from MW2 Mercs and Battletech 4th edition.

I'm going to guess 4 or 5 per weight class which will be 16 or 20 total, and they will be all your classic Inner Sphere designs, minus the unseen, unless they can work out a deal with HG, or I would not even care about putting in those mechs, under the Wizkid's owed Project Pheinox models, and forget about the unseen models.

Lights I think we will see...
Jenner, Wolfhound, Raven, Hermes, ... if they add a 5th I'd put Firestarter, Urbanmech, Commando and Spider on the bubble
(The 1st is confirmed and the 2nd two I think are with out a doubt, Wolfhound being Phelan Kell's mech, and the Raven becuase for a light mech it is just as reconisable as the Mad Cat/Timber Wolf, and it is on a lot of cover art)

Mediums...
Centurion, Hunchback (comfirmed) based off lore and dates and being talked about in the books I'd guess for medium class Trebuchet, Crab, Blackjack, or Wolftrap (sister mech of the wolfhound), and would have considred the Hatchetman if the devs had not already come out and said there would be no melee combat.

Heavy..
Catapult, Dragon (Confirmed), I'm going to have to guess on the Black Kinght and Orion for heavy very few 3049 heavies can be on the bubble here... maybe the Flashman, Exterminator, and the quickdraw from the SLDF. Axman is out for the same reason as the Hatchetman.

Assult....
Atlas (Duh, confirmed) Awsome and Zeus (how can you have 3049 without those two), Victor, so that is four but it puts all the great SLDF mechs on the bubble, Banshee, Highlander, Stalker, King Crab

those are the mechs I'd expect to see to start the four per list stated, and one from the on the bubble list, if they go with 5 per class

No worries.

12 mechs at launch.

Then follow by a "Star League Revival" month and you get another 10 or so SL era mechs. Hell even SL Royals.
Then a "House Pour Special" month and you get another 3 to 4 signature House mechs per faction.
Then a "Clanner beat down" month and you get the whole 3050 Clan meanie beat sticks attempting to shoot you out off your cockpits.

Take it slow but do it right.

The developers probably won't want to inundate people with information and media the closer to launch date we get. There's an allure to mystery and prompting players to discover what hasn't been revealed by playing the game itself. Too much info and media and people start forming assumptions and opinions before the game's even launched, which is bad for business.

I am also for quality over quantity...but I have to suggest that perhaps they are keeping a couple back so when they release it, there is still something of a surprise waiting for us...

One thing is for sure, they like holding information over us, we are babies and they enjoy jangling the metaphrocal keys...

I endorse this message. I think that there is much we have not yet (un)seen. AmIRightGuys? Marauder fans anyone? For realzies? Ok its like 0600 and I'm exhausted. Gimme a break but yeah I think they are holding a few things back.

16 to 20 Mechs would be more than enough. At 17 we could have one of every tonnage.
Fewer mechs that all have a uniqe feel and role would be much prefarable than an army of similar mechs with different textures.
Would be shocked if we do not get the Raven given all the fuss they are making over information warfare.
