In the "Developer Q&A 1 - The Reboot of MechWarrior®" the following was discussed:
"Is this game going to have lots of servers like a WoW or are you hoping for a single persistent server world like EVE Online?
[MATT C] Each game spawns its own dedicated server, these are not persistent like WoW, as mentioned that would take us into MMO territory. There is persistent game world information, i.e. match results are communicated to affect the balance of power in the Inner Sphere, who owns what planet etc. but there is no true persistent world, more of a persistent meta-game.
[MATT N] Lots of Servers Lots and Lots of servers"
Bearing the above in mind, I had a suggestion.
Even though MWO will not be a 'persistent' game world, there will be multiple servers. In order to increase the amount of match availability during all times of the day/night, I suggest instituting a cross-server dungeon finder mechanic similar to World of Warcraft (WOW)...call it "Match Finder"...if you will.
This Match Finder will allow players to fill the ranks of matches across multiple servers. As MWO will not have the persistent world element, I don't see a down-side to introducing this. After all, what does it matter if you won a border planet dispute that actually existed on server #3 instead of server #22? As there is no persistent world...there really is no border planet...it is just a series of matches with tracked statistics and player statuses.
While some may think this will break some sense of immersion...I disagree...I think it actually adds to it. Think about it. What is more realistic? One Merc Corp Unit winning one battle/match and then suddenly, they are in sole control of an entire border world? Or, is it more realistic to have multiple battles with multiple Merc Corp Units. Some Merc Units lose the planet...some win the same planet. Remember, Faction Houses would hire more than one Merc Corp at a time to take back territory...my suggestion plays this out....just like in the BT lore.
Another advantage is that when this game goes live, players from different time zones (with different play-times) may find themselves at the short end of the stick. Maybe the only time they can play is early in the morning, and only for a half hour. Having a cross-server Match Finder would assist those players. This would also allow a greater number of players/customers to log on the game and play right away, cutting down on some frustration that would result from a relatively slower single server process.
What are your thoughts on the matter?

Well, I hope the Devs were already considering doing this, or else there was a massive oversight. I am pretty sure that you just described the majority of what they plan to do.
PS: Please never mention that other game... ever again. Not on these forums

I don't think you quite understand what the answer meant. This is going to be like World of Tanks, not actual multiple server worlds.

Sorry Kerensky...I had to say the "other game" in order to get my point across.
I will try to refrain from using the "other game" again.

its a giant map that stores the information of your win/loss is all. each fight is its own instance. they will have multiple servers running to handle as many fights at the same time as possible. so there will never be a reason to have to suffer thru 1 person holding world x on server 3 smack talking person 2 holding world x on server 52.

Since we won't be able to independently travel to a particular world we will have to trust that the information on the big board is exactly what the game mods want us to know. How each fight affects each world could be handled differently - One battle was to establish political control on planet X, another was just to make a harassing attack in an attempt to pull some units away from another juicer planet, etc.
We're only talking 12v12 battles. A planet doesn't have to swap sides just because the attacker won.

Sorry if my post gets a little bit incoherent, laughing heavily still...
Does that mean my team might end up fighting in a cave complex and battling orcs, dragons and what not in order to rescue the princess? That is somewhat the immediate idea I get when hearing/reading "dungeon".
