I know that it's not the first thread, but i honestly think that developers deserve more than a single 'thx'.
Many thanks guys! I was worried about the game ever since it was announced, because every free-to-play model that I've seen so far aims for the casual audience, at least partially. This totally makes sense in terms of business, but always scares away hardcore gamers, which doesn't mean losing much of the cash flows and is usually disregarded by publisher. My worries are gone and didn't come back so far.
First. You voluntarily decided to make a game about the universe with limited popularity (R.I.P. FASA). Moreover, lack of 'realism' (if 'sci-fi realism' is a valid metaphor) of the universe mechanics does no good for the promotion among new audience. However, approaching the subject with love and care can more than offset that. This is extremely hard, but in a few cases (a post-nuclear universe we all know or a stange galaxy far-far away), awkward 'setting' can create unique atmosphere and enhance the game experience. This is a first reason why you deserve a big fat THANKS. That's a venture worth respecting.
Second. I suppose that even among the BattleTech fans, most players hardly played an offline game once. Out of this majority, most haven't seen anything older than MechWarrior 4 (honestly, I tried MW2 and MW3 a few years after MW4 was released). Therefore, your 'hardcore' audience is very-very limited. However, you remember about them and accounted for them and you listen to them now (and I hope you will continue going forward). You made the game more 'canonical' than PC MW series in some aspects (despite a customizeable mech-shooter was already treated by reviewers as 'not-casual-enough' for majority of players). Obviously, you have to care about casual players. But the current balance seems brilliant. Of course, a couple of tutorials (in-game and mechlab) would be helpful for most newcomers, but current set-up is impressive.
Third. The tactics. Seriously, another 'thank you' just for that. There are very few games available where tactics means much more than APM/hours played so far/hours played a week/donations. It is a pleasure when you win with your brain, and it is entertaining as well to lose, when you understand that you've been owned by an excellent tactical set-up. And in connection to the 'second' point - I hope that advantages that serious tactical approach and teamplay provides won't scare off individuals - I'm sure you keep that in mind as well (not that I don't like free frags).
P.S. (not advertising) Players, if you like the game, the universe, support it by donating - commercial success is something that allows making a good game better. I bought the 120$ package not for the name in credits or extra mechs. I wanted to thank the developers of the great universe that I love for the last 12 years. I don't know if anyone from FASA works in Piranha Bytes, but I wanted to thank them personally. Not that the rest of the developers are bad or weak - you guys all do an incredible job, but it is a little sad that the creators of such an interesting and great universe not exist anymore (in corporate terms).

Not in beta discussion... so careful careful...
I was a huge fan of Mechwarrior 2, Ghost Bear's Legacy, MW2 Mercenaries (Skipped Mechwarrior 3 due to slow pc). Those games are mostly offline. I own Mechwarrior 4, but I never beat it.
Yes, I for one am extremely happy to have a chance to bring bipedal death to the battlefield once again. I would have loved another campaign based game, but I know that this was an easier way to go about it for now. World of Tanks is pretty good, but there have been some long standing issues, like the developers never listening to fan feedback. I'm glad that so far that hasn't happened here.
