I don't need to claim, I suspect your own political bias is rather influencing you. Hint: it's not "left leaning" (leaving aside the fact that no poltical candidates in the USA anywhere near 'the left' and it doesn't mean what most people think anyway) just because you think it is 'left' of your own views.

Regardless, what the article says wouldn't be especially relevant to Newsweek's historical position, now would it? :-)

List of political magazines

Newsweek is not "left leaning" or even partisan. It was the publication that initially took Clinton to task over allegations regarding Lewinsky, for example, and we know how that one worked out.

I think you should look at your bias.

Newsweek Wiki

"Newsweek reporter Michael Isikoff was the first reporter to investigate allegations of a sexual relationship between U.S. President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, but the editors spiked the story.[27] The story soon surfaced online in the Drudge Report."

Scandalous scoop breaks online

It not a smear to be left or right. American media has become just that.

But let's not continue to debate the magazine. I think the article(which is authored by a former john mccain advisor) has some good points to ponder.

Mitt Romney chose good running mate Paul Ryan, Voted BIGGEST BROWN NOSER in high school, lol, Also reported he has never worked 1 hour on a real job.. He will be right at home in Washington, DC. For those not from US, They are presidential canidate and running mate.

I don't trust Mitt as he was a former, sleazy investment banker. HOWEVER...

Obama is an OBAMANIATION! He's WORSE than Carter! Worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's got to go.

P.S. How dare he insinuate he's going to try and take our assault weapons away.

Anyone who votes for Obama is not an American in my book. They should be ashamed of themselves.

TRUE Americans--these are the people who are prepared to vote INDEPENDENT if needed... and this is precisely what America needs for a President.

LOL no it doesn't. That is the most absurd thing to pick out of a well written article that outlines a lot of information that could help in a decision as important as a presidential election.

I do not know John stewart, sorry... I was not taking a political stance there. This guy has been waiting 4 years to write that article, pure and simple. Don't believe me? Check what he has been writing previously, on the subject and several others. Then check who he is, is bio, where he comes from. Then take and educated guess on where he leans.
The issue is not Obama, or the publication (of which I do not know much, I am afraid), please, I want to specify that McCain could have been the president, he could have saved the world, and another guy from another publication, with an equivalent background, would have written a similar article.
I have a huge issue with "opinion" pieces. In 10 opinion articles that I read on large publications in the 3 languages that I can read, 9 are made on commission or out of personal interest, biased and aimed at proving a point, and not to construct an opinion, reason being that it makes for better revenue, as people like certainties more than doubts.

The opinionist job is usually either harmful or useless: if people do not know what to think about something, they should be taught how to think, how to analyse a problem, not what to think. He is presenting numbers on what he wants, pursuing his goal of proving the title, and promoting you HIS vision of things. I've read trough it, it is absolutely uninteresting for me. I do not know this guy and I do not trust his opinion, as I feel he has an agenda, plain and simple. If I have to vote for anyone, I do my calculations, thank you very much.
There are always 2 ways of analysing a situation, he is taking one stance, and I suspect that is the one that will keep him more money in the bank.
But my personal, mostly uninterested opinion (I am not a US citizen, and the US has always pursued his foreign politics goals irrespectively of whether a republican or democrat president was sitting in the White House), is that he has some good 'ol british imperialism in him, when he is afraid of the rest of the world.

LOL As far as US politics is concerned, I don't have one. :-) Or rather, it's not going to favour one party or the other, because they're basically the same on so many issues anyway (they're polticially both slightly right of centre and these days, they're also both trending to authoritarian, too) that I choose candidates based on specific issues. However, even there, it's merely my expressed preference, since I can't vote.

Newsweek changed ownership and editorial line in the last few years, by the way.

Ah, and from what I usually read around, a lot of guys really need to redefine their concept of "left". I do not recall a single president from the "left", but please feel free to correct me.

It is because Americans, by the mid-90's, stopped being taught how to think in our public schools. This is when the schools switched from pass through success and only success to pass through taking standardized tests.

Americans are too darn lazy to care enough to try and read multiple sources and form their own idea on someone. Instead, they are stuck on this notion there is only one party or the other and nothing between. It's sad. It is also ruining our country.

I'm proud I decided a while ago this two partisan BS has to stop and began voting for who I thought would do the best job, not the antithesis of the candidate I hate most (by party affiliation alone).

Hence, this is why I've proposed for some time standardized testing is thrown out of schools, multiple choice tests are relinquished and in their place, essay tests, fill in the blank and oral exams are re-instated.

It'll never happen. It requires too much work. It requires... thought! Our public system does not want thinkers. Those in government learned a long time ago that a non-thinking populace is much easier to control...

Okay, read it. It's not very good and reads mostly as sour grapes, especially when he tries to complain about things that actually are not Obama's policy results but either inevitable and predicted trends or the result of policies he inherited. Full Disclosure: I would have voted McCain in, had I been a US voter and I don't rate Obama's economic policies. So, aye... not an especially good article to tout, just more the same propaganda.

I agree that both parties have moved authoritarian. But I disagree about left and right as some others have posted. The definition may be different for other countrys. And yes I am biased. I was a registered Democrat a long time ago. But have moved to a Republican leaning.

I do agree with Ron Paul being a great choice but he would have to find a very good running mate. He would be hammered on the age issue. That is if he could get on one of the parties ticket.

The 'left - right' thing is really not up for debate. Even if we were talking relatively left and relatively right, the parties are right on top of each other. We're not making this stuff up. Economically there's ****** all between the two parties, for the most part, the entire serious policy difference is in terms of social policies and there, sadly, we have otherwise sound Republican platforms being tossed away because they also have utterly moronic nonsense, like trying to legislate people's sexuality or women's reproductive choices.

Two things.

One...tighten the requirements overall to hold any office, relax the age restrictions, beef up the minimum requirements of skill and experience in relevant fields to each specific office. Deny candidacy to all religious affiliates, and require that those in office give up claim on all private income while in office.

Two...no more elections, lottery pick only. No campaigns, no attack ads, no brown-nosing, and no overwhelming poisonous ideologies.

Maybe in a century or two, if humanity has somehow matured enough to handle the responsibility, they can have some form of democracy, whether it be representative or direct. But right now, they just don't deserve it, they're just not ready.

THIS EXACTLY!!!...and hey, Im sooo sick of seeing those damn little signs everywhere. "Vote for me", "blah blah for senate". I really enjoy veering off the road and "accidentally" running those things over in my big truck. Vote for Pedro, the lesser of two evils. Peace.

Unfortunatelly you're right... I am not american myself but i know that whoever is going to be voted this year is going to take its effects world wide. In the past elections the american people just seemed to gave up on their problem solving solutions and ceased to believe that they can do anything to solve the problem, and even less they believe that they have any part of it but the Governament themselves... But I blame the Zionist program to make people "fat, happy and stupid", that starts by an early age in schools like you mentioned.

People today are more concerned now which candidates have better looking, have more charisma, and who ever say "God bless America" more often because that allways brings extra votes from the "zombies", than actually searching for some other candidate that has a complete plan that could take you out of the problematic zone... But even if they did, today what we see in the top polls are the ones that are just the mere puppets that zion-mainstream-medias will allways endorse and talk about everyday... even if all they do is fart during their sleep...

Who speaks the truth will allways be silenced by them, thats why i mentioned Ron Paul.

Boy, reading this entire thread was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I knew I shouldn't read it, I knew it would be full of drivel with a few bits worth reading.

Now my mind, as well as my faith in humanity, is blown for a good 24 hours. Time to clean myself off by watching midget **** or hunters clubbing baby seals or anything, ANYTHING other than this.

This thread, more than anything else I've ever seen, is the best argument for a federalized, national education system. It makes me sad that one can guess who was educated elsewhere (than the United States) by the quality of their arguments and thought processes.

Sad Panda.
