Apparently the laser fires in pulses and is capable of heating matter to "over 3.6 million degrees Fahrenheit".

So... now all we need is someone to turn it into a single-beam laser, make 6 of them and build a Supernova 'mech to carry them! Fun for everyone! :)

Laser technology, both pulsed and steady beam, has been around for a LONG time. Only thing that is significant about this is that it is more powerful than some earlier versions.

We are getting closer to a practical military directed energy weapon though. The Army and Israelis are working on a laser to shoot down incoming missiles and artillery. And they succeeded in shooting down some mortar shells years ago.
