I'm a BIG "Steam" user... AOE Online is a GREAT F2P title... I'm just hoping this will be high on my FTP list, once its 99.9%.

I remember a long time ago when EA used to be good.

What happened? I feel like they succumbed to sequelitis and now just crap out as many horrible and quickly slapped together sequels as possible with as much hype as they can manage instead of producing quality games like in the good old days.

Stupid people will continue buying every "new" version of the same game every year though, so I guess they'll be sticking around for a long time.

On a similar note, holy crap Hitman 5? Did Square Enix finally make it to the second worst producer in gaming because of this? (AKA damn you for ruining everything you touch you ********.)

I absolutely love F2P. WoT is my fav game of choice atm. Never thought that I would invest a dime, but... They hook you. It is great to try the game for a bit before you commit. Wish I could get a little feedback on how the Beta is going for this game. I might just invest. Hard to commit without trying the game, that is where F2P shines.

As much as I love the C&C universe I own ever single game. I watched the video, and as much as I love Generals and C&C that looks like it would be nothing but a holy hot mess, and yes I think EA will ruin it.

This mindset actually irritates me, to claim that expansion packs and the costs of them are a result and downside of F2P is just entirely wrong. We've had expansion packs for regular games for many years. WoW is a prime example of a sub game with expansions, which you have to pay for. Hell, even MW2 had an expansion. If you wanted to play the additonal content, you paid the coinage. It's not an f2P issue, it's a gaming issue. There's nothing wrong with F2P so long as it's done right. LotRO is a great model for the most part. Being sub wouldn't have made the game cheaper, you'd still have to buy the expansion and then you'd be paying money every month on top.

Just as well, that I neither claimed such a thing nor have that mindset, then, isn't it? Care to read what it is I actually said?

PC Gamer just reported on C&C Generals 2 being F2P:

http://www.pcgamer.c...-and-price-tag/

...and reading the comments, people are angry. Very angry. One even commented angrily towards MWO, without really substantiating his anger. Why are these people so against F2P? Granted, EA will probably make an absolute mess of the game, and even if they don't, it's incredibly fashionable to hate EA at the moment, so people will do everything they can to pull the game under.

Is the general gaming populace just not familiar enough with the F2P model yet? Have they been exposed to too many cheap pay-to-win iOS games?

In my experience there's more hate for subscription based models at the moment, which is my favorite, but oh well.
