Hm.

Individual weapons being drawn... without being attached to Mechs. And variants of those weapons, at that.

This leads me to 1 of 2 conclusions:
1) There is -some- kind of Mech customization available, as the drawing and design of individual weapons would otherwise be a waste of time.
or
2) Weapon variants are being drawn so that when they weld them onto Mechs in Max/Maya/Zbrush/pickyour3Dmodeler, they can have some minor variation in the appearance of weapons so that all Mechs with the same 2xERLL, 2xERML, 1xERPPC, 1xFlamer model don't look like the same things on a different body.

These are 2 radically different inferences, I know... but am I the only one thinking this? :D

you mean there is a chance that there will NOT be a mech lab?????? my Gawd that is half the fun fo the whole endeavor, I had no problem running with the stock folks and such, but not bein' able ta' add, subtract, etercerrer....is just plain, well, I aint gonner evn' comint on suchasmuch nonsense. There has to be a way to make these devils our own! after all, the better the devil you know.......

It would be awesome to see flamers have the ability in game to start fires and create smoke screens

I hear ya. Especially when there is supposed to more of an emphasis on line of sight to find your targets. Combine that with a command style player and his mech that can help you pinpoint the enemy... sounds like good tactical fun to me!

Even better: make a line of physical models based on these designs, both for the table top game and to be able to have an actual model of the mech you pilot next to your computer.

Throw off the old thermo imaging? imagine scouts running around starting fires everywhere to hide the advancing heavies.

I am reasonably certain that lighting trash cans on fire is frowned on in most communities.

So I guess these are next questions: Does the different artwork for the same weapon mean that the developers are trying to make some variation in the look of mechs even if they have the same loudout (which would be cool), or does this mean that there would be differences in the mechanics of the weapon based on manufacturer (which would be really cool)?

In the TT rules, flamers can do damage or heat. Could we get combinations of that based on manufacturer? (+2 heat +0 dmg, +1 heat +1 dmg, +0 heat, +2 dmg). AC's have been been talked about at length as to combinations of the number of shells and damage per shell. And think of missile packs where different brands might change the length of time it takes to for a lock-on and the time it takes for that lock-on to decay once you've lost the target (i.e quick acquisition = quick decay).

As someone who just recently sent a "pacification" platoon of flamer infantry on an arson spree through a city after it became clear we were going to lose the scenario in MegaMek, I fully support this weapon.

I was wondering about flamers, and am very excited they are in the game. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a beautifuly ugly Firestarter FS9-H as that is the iconic flamer mech in MW/BT.
