As some of you know the Mechwarrior PC community has lost alot of the once great players and fans that it had.I would atribute this to the fact the MSN gamming zone was pulled from us by Microsoft.Once a community looses its ability to promote its self and attain new players it is doomed to a long slow decline.Even with the small and limited support of Mektek the decline is seen there are maybe 100 hardcore PC Mechwarrior players left.So i urge all of you that still have any PC mechwarrior games to come back online and lets play and practice till the new game comes out.And i know the Mektek version is not easy to install but it can be done.here are the links to get you online if you have or dont have the PC versions to play.

dont know if all of the people on this forum know where to play there old Mech type games but here it is
www.gameranger.com it is a simple version of the old MSN gamming zone.You can play MechCommander,MechCommander2,Mechwarrior3,Mechwarrior3 PiratesMoon,Mechwarrior4Vengeance,Mechwarrior4BlackKnight,Mechwarrior4Mercinaries,
Mechwarrior4MercinariesPR1,and the Mechwarrior4Mercenaries Free Mektek version also.

Here are the instructions to get the Mektek Free version to work on GameRanger

First go to gameranger.com download client and make account.The activation email will sometimes come in a junk folder.Activate your account and startup gameranger.
Visit www.mektek.net and download a free copy of Mechwarrior Mercinaries through the MTX or torrunt programs update it to version 3.1/30a-30c
Next go to your hardrive where your free copy of the Mektek mercinaries is installed(C:D:ECT\programfiles\mektek.net folder).
Next rename the folder(mektek.net)folder to (Mektek) delete the (.net).
Next go inside the newly renamed (mektek) folder and find the folder(Mercenaries-Mektek Mekpack)
Next rename the folder (Mercenaries-Mektek Mekpack) to (MercenariesMektek)all one word then go back to GameRanger on the gameranger bronze page go to edit then options find the game Mechwarrior Mercinaries on the games tab highlight it on list then hit the brows tab to open it point your link to your new C:\program files\mektek\MercinariesMektek\MW4mercs.exe
thats it now you can play on gameranger.

P.S GameRanger will automaticly setup your PC ports&Router Ports to host and play.

There was nothing small or limited by mektek's support. The only and I mean ONLY reason you could still play mechwarrior 4 after the MSN gaming zone was because of the work that Mektek did with creating a network to replace the gamingzone the content that was added exceeded that of the original programing. For all intent and purpose Mech4 should have died the day the gaming zone was turned off.

They did that without demanding a dime only donations. no small thing.

I think you took it wrong my friend it was to point out that Mektek has carried the banner and the community as a whole has not helped them
but if you want to start a flame war about the merits or nonmerits of mektek plese do it in another thread im sure you will get posters from bolth sides of the fence.

P.S come online lets play and shoot eachothers legs off and releve your anxieties.

My biggest issue with Mektek is McAfee is CONVINCED it is a virus, so after 10-15 minutes of play, it deletes the game's .exe. No warning, no "would you like to delete MW4.exe", just gone, while in game. Tried "turning off" McAfee, but apparently, like traction control in a Mercedes, it never really turns off.

AchtungGutenTag hello to you there is a fix for this you have to go into the McAfees settings and make the folder & mw4.exe a (exclusion) then the virus detector will not scan it and delete it.hope to see you online


P.S you can do this with all Antivirus programs.

no worries man. Wasn't really trying to start a flame war. 75% of what gets typed gets taken out of context. Ater re-reading your post I see what you were saying. you even posted the Mektek sites and links, so don't mind me I work the graveyard shift, And sometimes my mouth runneth over.

I think he might also consider switching over to Malwarebytes, Avast!, or maybe AVG, too. After one computer I had that came with the Mcafee I've decided it's worse than most of the malware it claims to protect against. I warn you, getting it off your computer to make room for another program is going to be a nightmare.

It, and Norton security are bad news so far as I've seen.

McAfee and Norton are both resource hogs. Unless your PC is pretty high-spec you're (general you there, not specific) better swapping to something else. Comodo isn't bad, AVG and Avast are also good. Avast is probably the least resource hungry but the the update alerts get annoying. If they have to have a voice, can it not sound like a pirate? "Aha, matey! Avast antivirus has been updated, Arrr!"

You can turn off the audio for the update alerts. And I don't recall them sounding like a pirate even before I turned them off...

I think you misread Gawain's comment; it would be preferable if Avast's update notification DID sound like a pirate in preference to the distinctly creepy pseudo-female Hal-alike.

Ah, yes I see what you're saying, that was more likely to be Gawain's intended meaning. I agree, the voice should be more piratey. I nominate Gawain for spearheading the effort to recruit Captain Dan & The Scurvy Crew to provide alerts for Avast.

I think I'd still turn the audio alerts off though...
