I tried a number of searches (my Boolean logic may not be the best) but I cannot find a clear answer.
Does anyone know if there will be a map that allows us to just roam alone to test and pilot? Likewise, will it be possible to set a map/match for invite only and 1v1 so that a player and *friendly* friend can likewise practice and test?
I'm ready to purchase but the 1v1 option is pretty important to me.
Thank you for any insight!

1. They've announced there will be a tutorial mission set (possibly 5 missions) in which you will learn to play the game.
2. They've announced that there will not be private match capability any time soon.
At this stage it doesn't look like there will be a 1v1 match type for a long time.

Thank you. That is disappointing.
I think the F2P model would work better if they offered some way to not just join open games. In one month, new players will feel outclassed. Unless there is some ranking/matching. I love mechwarrior games, but the Battlestar Galatica Online game showed me how endless battles gets old fast. Even PS1 felt boring after months. There is something to say for casual/fun matches instead of constant serious gameplay.
I'll still try F2P, because it's free, but I don't think I'll pre-purchase. I do hope to enjoy the game and subscribe down the line however!

Well they are talking about ranking/matchmaking based on skill and all that. Also they are making the game so that bigger does not equal better. Just because someone has more and bigger mechs won't make someone who has just started worse off.. this isn't going to be like World of Tanks in that sense.

The dynamics are very very old in this genre, so you would think the developers have thought it through and the play testing has maximized replay-ability.
