So based on DevBlog4.2 - It appears the Commander role has capacity to call in various air-strike packages, bombardment, drones and Satellite Sweeps... Totally cool and much anticipated.

That said I wonder what "other" NPC type units may or may not be part of our fun and excitement?

Food for thought:
  • Convoys (Escort missions)
  • Ammo / Fuel resupply escort - Interdiction (Disrupt logistics!)
  • Hunter / Killer - (Assassination missions)
  • Artillery / Garrison Duties - (Guard and or Fire Support)
  • ?
Lastly, once the Clans show their non-contraction using faces... Elemental's? :D

The way I look at it, as much as I like running around blowing other Mechs to bits, the world might eventually be a little sterile if there's not support units of one sort or another popping up occasionally?

Thoughts?

I think (at least at launch) there will be few NPCs to speak off.. at least any you interact with.

It would complicate the game and coding.. I think right now they want to get the intial product out there, and by eliminating any "logic" or "AI" in the game.. they can focus on artwork, animation, balance, networking, etc..

I hope in teh future we see Armor, Infantry, and even NPC Mechs that we can work with.

I am really crossing my fingers that they build the game and engine to the point they can actually produce stand alone missions (with NPC Mechs to fight, and scripted scenes, like a standard FPS) for sale. Then when you finish the mission (either by yourself or with your lance) you get bonus XP, and such..

I am expecting what we get in Beta and in the initial launch will be good, but thin on content and "extras". That said they are going to be one of the first CryEngine3 games out of the gate.. which means they will have a lot of engine to build the game on over the years. So I fully expect this game to evolve and grow for years..

THat said, at launch I wouldn't expect a lot of AI or active NPCs in the game.

Of course not for launch, but summonable armor/close air support (like helicopters, not just airstrikes) would be pretty sweet.

Infantry I think would better be as a sort of defense type of thing, like they stack up in a ruined building and make close-range/ambush attacks at passing enemies. Modeling individual infantry probably wouldn't be worth it.

Maybe supply or re-arming trucks too.

And of course mission objectives always make the game better, attack/defend and convoys would be awesome.

I think your sig logo is interesting. The Green face was used by a guy waaaaaaay back in 1999 (and before) who ran a search engine called Greenguy's Link-o-Rama or something like that. Not sure if he is still around or not but I believe that was his logo/button.

No don't be silly..

It's the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything..

As clarified in "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" originally published by Megadodo Publications, one of the great publishing houses of Ursa Minor Beta.

The Guide is a small, thin, flexible lap computer encased in a sturdy plastic cover with the words "Don't Panic" inscribed on it in large, friendly letters. It is made of a robust construction, making it able to withstand falling through time/space wormholes and being thrown into swamps, being rescued, and still operate. Its entries are arranged alphabetically on the screen and accessed via typing entry codes on a keyboard; "Earth" is on the same page as "Eccentrica Gallumbits, the Triple-Breasted ***** of Eroticon 6."

Some copies are also known to have a freaky looking green "planet" sticking its tounge out at you as well..

No Jump Ship should be without its copy.

No, it's not. A contraction is when you put two words together, keeping both the beginning and end and omitting some middle letters.

Quiaff/quineg doesn't keep the ends. It cuts off the ends.

Just like Batchall is a shortening of battle challenge, cutting off the ends of both words and then combining them.

It's clipping (http://en.wikipedia....ng_(morphology)), rather than contraction. Clipping is acceptable to trueborn clanners, contractions aren't.

Sorry for the confusion... :o

It also was / is the green space being that was used on the cover-art for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe... This was the first thing that popped into my head when i wanted to create a personalized signature. I debated using Marvin the depressed robot but felt it lacked emotion.... Go figure eh? :o
