Though technically I knew about Battletech long before either of those...

Well I'm 20 so that's definitely a good estimation

BTW did anyone watch Wing later(like say past few years) and get incredibly tired of Heero saying I'm going to kill you? >_< god that bugged me something fierce!

Anyway, I'm a big fan of gundam, especially the military sub series like 08th MS team. You have to be able to look past some goofyness though, like the 70s robot design in Original gundam, or the Romeo and Juliet going on in 08th MS team. 0083 was really good (And the bad guys win!). Zeta was a little too 'teenaged' for me I think and ZZ I'm watching for the first time now. As for alternate universes, 00 is the only one I've really liked (although I loved Gundam Wing as a child, going back its... uh... pretty sucky). I also liked G Gundam but uh... I wouldn't recommend that to the average battletech fan (Hint: Its the one with the Gundam shaped like a windmill).

Does battletech have a series like G Gundam? I think not. (sadly Mechwarrior has a G Gundam, its called MechAss for short)

Curiously enough, I've never watched Gundam Wing. I wonder if it's worth it...

I think I had heard of Gundam before Mechwarrior; never watched it, just heard of it.
I became interested in Mechwarrior before Gundam (and even then, only some of Gundam).

Edit: It may not have been super-original, but it was pretty decent.

Plus if you want even more for Mecha before Battletech, lets bring in Voltron!!!!! 5 lions then the vehicle one. All very cool and I loved it all. Of course I just made myself dated and looking old here. LMAO.
But for you Gundam fans I would suggest to go looking for the Starblazers and the old Harmony Gold Robotech series. Macross, Southern Cross and Invid invasion were awesome.
Thanks though. I just went down memory lane and for tomorrow morning, my kids and I will watch some Voltron. SWEEETT!

I was kind of hooked on mechs for a while, for some reason I always thought of them as walking tanks though, not anime style. My parents got me MechWarrior 3 as a Christmas gift. I still regret the fact that game isn't stable on Win7. I never did beat it (but I got 2/3 of the way through the campaign, not bad for a 1st grader

I never really knew Gundam (or any anime mecha for that matter) was a thing until about 7th grade when a bunch of my classmates got really into it. I just shrugged and thought "I like my mechs with guns bolted on thanks".

taking in fact that Wing had Mercs(Duo itself, Noin's Sanc Army, Maganac Corps)
and a Bad4ss Leader, General, Strategist, Gentleman and half Davion called Treize Kusherenada
before that my first mecha series was Heavy Gear, it sucks that the series ended up without the beggining of the war, Wing was the second one
