I just wanted to see how many folks had heard of the Gundam Series before they heard of Mech Warrior? Personally I watched Gundam Wing back when it was on Toonami on Cartoon Network, Man that was a long time ago. Just caught the mecha bug, can't get enough of it. How about you folk?

That would be anyone under the age of 30.

Almost literally at the same time. I would watch Wing on Toonami then go play MechCommander.

Though technically I knew about Battletech long before either of those...

Well I'm 20 so that's definitely a good estimation ;) nothing wrong with that is there?

BTW did anyone watch Wing later(like say past few years) and get incredibly tired of Heero saying I'm going to kill you? >_< god that bugged me something fierce!

I'm 25 and I played battletech first, mechwarrior second, then I watched Robotech and Gundam later on. I don't really see what age as to do with it.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of gundam, especially the military sub series like 08th MS team. You have to be able to look past some goofyness though, like the 70s robot design in Original gundam, or the Romeo and Juliet going on in 08th MS team. 0083 was really good (And the bad guys win!). Zeta was a little too 'teenaged' for me I think and ZZ I'm watching for the first time now. As for alternate universes, 00 is the only one I've really liked (although I loved Gundam Wing as a child, going back its... uh... pretty sucky). I also liked G Gundam but uh... I wouldn't recommend that to the average battletech fan (Hint: Its the one with the Gundam shaped like a windmill).

Gondam Gundams. Battletech>Mechwarrior>Macross>Gundams.

Does battletech have a series like G Gundam? I think not. (sadly Mechwarrior has a G Gundam, its called MechAss for short)

Honestly i feel gundam wing is one of the better ones it's not so ccrazy compared to some of the others ones and give a reason for their bad assedness(gundamium is better than the steel or whatever the mobile suits are made of) but the suits aren't invincible and teh characters all have flaws(to a fault, heero was just nuts, kactra saw good in way to many people and when that was shattered when ape blankity, wey fung[um chinese guy I can't remember ><]had issues of honor and power, troa was suicidal) so yeah normal with anime really, but again the robots seemed the mst possible

I'm not sure if I heard of Gundam before I heard about BattleTech, but I've been a BattleTech fan long before I watched a (the original, actually) Gundam series. Since then, I've watched most of the Universal Century and I quite like pretty much all of it. I'm not usually much of a fan of the alternate universes, especially given their usually significantly less realistic setting, but Turn A and the first season of 00 were excellent.

Curiously enough, I've never watched Gundam Wing. I wonder if it's worth it...

I'd say if you've watched much of others you should watch Wing, it's better than some of hte others, in all honesty I hate the original gundam >_< it's kind of like the old spiderman where it's lke the same animation over and over xD that caused all the Spiderman memes

Well, I am almost 20.

I think I had heard of Gundam before Mechwarrior; never watched it, just heard of it.
I became interested in Mechwarrior before Gundam (and even then, only some of Gundam).

I played MechWarrior 2 before having watched Gundam Wing (my first Gundam series). I gotta say, I still very much enjoy Gundam Wing, I find the political side of it very entertaining and well... Robots and explosions~ Woo~

Gundam Wing had an interesting political back-story.

Edit: It may not have been super-original, but it was pretty decent.

Gundam Wing is young compared to the pioneers of Mecha. I mean one post had Starblazers (which is cool for the late 70's and early 80's) but for me it was all about Robotech...OOOO baby! IN fact Battletech got into some serious trouble with copywrite infringement because they used a couple missle boat mecha builds for the original Archer and Longbow. The Rifleman was copied as was the Marauder, the Warhammer, Phoenix Hawk, Stinger and I believe a couple more but cannot remember them.

Plus if you want even more for Mecha before Battletech, lets bring in Voltron!!!!! 5 lions then the vehicle one. All very cool and I loved it all. Of course I just made myself dated and looking old here. LMAO.

But for you Gundam fans I would suggest to go looking for the Starblazers and the old Harmony Gold Robotech series. Macross, Southern Cross and Invid invasion were awesome.

Thanks though. I just went down memory lane and for tomorrow morning, my kids and I will watch some Voltron. SWEEETT!

I'm 20. I saw Robotech on Toonami before I was old enough to even read the name right (I just saw "oh it's that one show with the really long word for a name...ooh, Beast Wars up next"). I didn't really have a clue what was going on and about 75% of the plot was over my head, but I liked watching robots get blown up!

I was kind of hooked on mechs for a while, for some reason I always thought of them as walking tanks though, not anime style. My parents got me MechWarrior 3 as a Christmas gift. I still regret the fact that game isn't stable on Win7. I never did beat it (but I got 2/3 of the way through the campaign, not bad for a 1st grader ;)).

I never really knew Gundam (or any anime mecha for that matter) was a thing until about 7th grade when a bunch of my classmates got really into it. I just shrugged and thought "I like my mechs with guns bolted on thanks".

My first mecha was the power rangers. The really old old not american power rangers I gleamed off a VHS bootleg from chinatown.

taking in fact that Wing had Mercs(Duo itself, Noin's Sanc Army, Maganac Corps)

and a Bad4ss Leader, General, Strategist, Gentleman and half Davion called Treize Kusherenada

before that my first mecha series was Heavy Gear, it sucks that the series ended up without the beggining of the war, Wing was the second one
