Ya i know, around a year ago i blew some compressed air inside the fan from both directions and after doing that when i did the same thing as before, instead of going crazy the fan was nice and wasent loud at all intill i was playing for a while and even then it was wasent even close to what it was before, it also made the exhast go from hot enought to burn your leg if you rested the port on it to only about luke warm water temp. So i really think i should get some compressed air into the fan ASAP lol. Ill see if i can remember to post the results in this thread too.

When you said laptop and gaming I grabed an egg to fry.

Lol ya, intil core 2 quad 2gigahertz prosessor, 4 gb of ram (unknown type :( ) and a AMD HD mobility 4650.
So its pretty nice i can play almost all games (have yet to find a game i cant yet) althought it wont be near to max lol.
Hell i play BF3 with everything lowwest and 800 by 600 lol.

Good thing idc what my game looks like :)

Edit #2
Ok temp is stable at 55, wheres that compressed air!

For a stocked hs thats fine, nothing to worry about. You could lower your heat some by going in to bio, and turn off both turbo, and performance booter.

1) 128 gb SSD - Not worth it
2) Corsair h60 Hydro cooler -Not worth it
3) 2x 4gb RAM-Only if you hate having extra empty slots

I would recommend the Hyper 212 plus http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103065

Disagree wholeheartedly with an SSD not being worth it. I absolutely love my pair. The system boots in a matter of seconds and load intensive games such as the total war games since empire take around 10 seconds to load a battle, while on the mechanical HDD they took 30-40 seconds sometimes a solid minute. I even experimented with GW2 during the last stress test and there may as well not have been loading screens because zone transitions were near instant.

Hey guise check out my kickass CPU thread?

Can't really take this serious. Anyone who gets to monitoring his hardware knows 40 °c is very good.

Ummm, actually, no. Firstly, because I am a neophyte at building computers. Secondly, even AS a neophyte, I know that the AMD FX 6200 is a middle of the pack CPU. Heck even the freaking prices would tell me that. So unless you are one of those people that thinks showing off their Ford Taurus is somehow REALLY COOL, I gotta say your comment is pretty dumb, and therefore, "hard to take seriously".

A more correct answer is, that since I have not built a (even semi) powerful computer before, I know that I need to do a whole heck of a lot more monitoring and maintenance, unless I want a 1000 dollar paper weight.

Oh well, there is always going to be someone out there that only feels better about themselves when trying to belittle others and their motives, I suppose.

Those water cooling kits have the same performance as a good hs and fan while cost 2 or 3 times as much.

Actually, gotta disagree on almost every count, but especially about the RAM. Since ASRock features XFast RAM, letting me essentially reserve or partition (whatever the correct compuspeak term is) my ram as virtual discs, I can pretty dang well set it up to utilize all 32 GBs it can carry, in theory, though I have no such need to go that far yet, I don't think. Actually, to this neophyte, it sounds like in a lot of ways it lets me use "excess" RAM to do a lot of the jobs one would normally use an SSD for. (though I admit I am fuzzy on this point, and still looking into what it's limitations are.). So no, not really wasted, IMO.

whow... holy crap... Just checked my laptops temp.... not good lol.

Using Realtemp and i was getting 80-85 C when gaming, and its currently still cooling down and its at about 55 atm, althoguht i think its still going down.

I think its time to clear out my fan again :P

EEEK! this why me no haz laptop!

If i need a computer to do the job, I want one that is not going to give itself heatstroke. And If I want portable, I can haz smart phone and tablets for that. To me, Laptops seem kind alike LAMs. A compromise that doesn't do either job near as well as it should.

holy crap.. I have an FX 8150 (3.6ghz 8 core) and it idles at about 25ish... I only go up to about 30C with my H80 cooler... so even the stock fan is doing pretty good if your only going to about 40...

Is that about normal, or what? Have never really run stuff like these before, and this is the first itme I have monitored core temp, but am trying to keep track, so I make the most of my upgrades in the future.

The current setup is:

1x Rosewill Ranger ATX mid size Case (with top 140mm fan, rear 120mm exhaust fan and front 120mm)
1x ASRock 990 extreme 4 mobo
1x AMD 6core FX 6200 (3.8/4.1 ghz) (Stock heatsink)
1x EVGA GeForce 560 SSC vidcard
2x 4gb Patriot Viper Extreme RAM
1x Cosair Pro series HX650w modular PSU
1x WD Caviar Black 1tb HDD
1x ASUS 24x DVD burner

when just doing basic stuff, it runs between 16-17oC, but when in game it kicks to around 40o.
Am trying to decide which item to add next:

1) 128 gb SSD
2) Corsair h60 Hydro cooler
3) 2x 4gb RAM

advice?

The only upgrade worth while from what you have is the SSD. It would be better to either just save your money or put it all into 1 really good SSD. The prices on these have dropped recently so you should be able to afford a 250gb on if not a 500gb. It is worth while looking up the ratings on various sites before buying though as there is a fair difference in performance between brands as it is still fairly early days for SSD (in the consumer market at least). Anandtech and Toms Hardware guide are 2 sources I find helpful.

The RAM would not help as Windows 7 limits access to memory for each running process to 2GB. Your system will work better anyway for having a matched pair of sticks rather than 4 sticks as the more RAM sticks you install, the more strain there is for your motherboards northbridge to cope with.

Also as your temps are so low there is absolutely no reason to upgrade your cooling solution unless you are getting loads of noise and if you are it would be a lot more economical to just turn down the fan speed (either with a fan controller or with your motherboards bios if that is supported in it).

40 degress Celcius is fairly normal. Mine idles around 40-45, with a third party heatsink (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835233003) on an original Phenom (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103286). I also built my computer back in.... 09? Early 09. Could use an upgrade, but I am too tight on money right now. Either way, just from my build currently, most of my components run 40ish C.

Some simply run this hot. Newer CPUs tend to run cooler. I've had a couple that ran in this range.

My phenom II X4 N930 Hits 90*C+ on a regular basis if I don't have a cooling pad / have it propped at a 30* angle with the vent up.

Well, I suppose it's time to invest in Liquid Phase-Change cooling now.

~$1000 later: -100°C gaming, here I come!

As has been mentioned before, 40C is not bad at all. I however have similar specs to you and my processor runs around 16C-20C while playing the game. If you are really concerned, you can do what I did, and convert over to active cooling with a peltier cooler. The one that I use is the Ultra Chilltec cooler. http://www.tigerdire...7079&CatId=4314 check it out for yourself. It rocks!

ummmmm
first.. unbunch your panties. Second, read the NDA. It is not a breach of the NDA to admit I am in Beta. All Founders are. No game information is posted. In fact, which game or games being played while monitoring core temp are not specified. The core temp of my computer while I am playing games is posted.

So, get over it.

I have had my FX-8150 at 67C several times now. Don't know if it's good for it, but it cools quickly. It idles around 40. Course the ambient temperature in the room is pretty hot as well.

If you get a Corsair water cooler, I would suggest getting the H100 if you have room for it.

An aircooler was mentioned eariler in the thread, but you have to make sure you have enough clearance for it. I have a large Cosmos S case and it won't take these huge aircoolers due to the side panel fan. I have been using a Coolit C240 for two years now.
