One thing I've found it hard to understand is the disproportionately small amount of leg damage that heavy and assault mechs take from falling damage. A light or many times medium mech falling from a decent distance will take much more leg damage, whereas a heavy or assault falling even from up high on the crystal formations on Tourmaline will be credited with very little leg damage given their mass.

While I don't have an issue with the tactic of "poptarting" per say, the actual implementation of the jets here is flawed. The typical tactic is to fire the jets until they either run out, or a weapon is fired. The player then releases the jets and falls sometimes 20 meters or more to the ground. Shouldn't the legs take more damage in this case? Should jumping mechs falling a sizable distance be expected to keep some jump fuel in reserve to cushion their legs from being damaged? A heavy or assault mech (think C1, A1, 3D or HM) should thoeretically take more leg damage from a fall and more damage proportionately than a jumping Spider or Jenner.

Space Magic, physics has nothing to do with it.

Its basically 1 or 2 damage for every fall to each leg. So because heavys/assaults have more leg armor they appear to take less leg damage. Nothing more, nothing less.

I always keep around 25 % of my jet for slowing down my landing. No damage here :)

I could have sworn that at some point in closed beta leg damage was much higher and you could actually blow your legs off if you fell far enough. It should damage internals not armor really. It's a shock to the internal structure not a nick on the armor.

Highlanders legs have those huge pistons built in to absord the shock of impact. realistically id wager mechs without jumpjets would be more vulnerable to falling damage, as their legs are not designed accordingly.
