Nope, but I played the original Shogun like it was a religion back in middle school. Those were the good old days of Morrowind, Final Fantasy 7, Shogun, and infinite time to play them all. Sigh...

It's good, but I'm kind of a sucker for that series.

I bought it, then got sick of the online, because my Clan Map got frozen (so I never got past freaking Ashigaru units.... B) ), and every random battle was me (a level 1), and while I am a competent commander, fighting level 10s was hard as hell, because they had better units, as well as better retainers. With my only Samurai limited to katana, I found myself losing many battles solely because my enemies had some retainer (gengu chef or something) that massively reduced my melee attack levels. And because my avatar was frozen on the map, my retainers were absolute crap, and it would be the only reason I lost. Adding retainers to multiplayer destroyed the game.

Nope, would need a new PC, played every other game in the series although did not spend much time on any after Rome, I liked the newer ones (once fixed with appropriate patches/mods) it was just all feeling a little samey by then. Different era, same battle AI a zombie could beat, same nonsensicle campaign AI, same old tactics to win, probably will get into it more next time I read a Bernard Cornwell book B) .
For anyone who has not played series to death would definitly recommend any of them.

Medieval: Viking Invasion is still the high point of the entire series, looks pretty dated now but it just managed to feel more brutal and vicious than any other edition and being limited to the British Isles it felt a more personal, close up and desperate fight for survival.

LOL well come across to Japan. B)

I have to say I was really skeptical. I never liked strategy games. I laughed at my friends who played them. I do however, love the Japanese culture, especially the lore of the samurai. I was intrigued so I tried it & I LOVE it. It is really addictive. I play as either Shimazu (my favorite), Chosokabe or Oda. I am not much of an open battle person though as I prefer sieges.

It is buggy as all get out, and the new DLC blood pack makes me sad (cause it's really a last gasp to try to wring money out of it).

I wish they'd give me a dungeon master II DCL so I can slap the units that rout (ashigara I'm looking at you).

Shogun 2 is a true good game.
Too much focus on Takeda clan and allies and Hojo forgotten. I mean they talk about Iga, Koga shinobi clans, it is possible to play the Hattori clan as they are the marks of shinobi in Japan. But they voluntary forgot the first and oldest shinobi clan, being loyal to Hojo is Fuma.
Iga and Koga had to join together to fight Fuma, without can succeed, Fuma killed the Hattori, Fuma maked many victories against Takeda, protected Hojo against all even to the best Takeda's agents. When Agawara captured, it is there again that Fuma protected legacy of Hojo and survivors until now. From all clan, Hojo is the one who stay today, bearer of many companies in Japan, the battlefield being now in business than on field.

So, I am disapointed about this voluntary forgot of Fuma ryu.

Still my favourite game in the series, but Shogun 2 comes a very close second.

And now that I've upgraded my rig I'm going to be playing it heavily. Yeah maxed size units for CPU & GPU crushing fun.
