Every BT game focused on piloting has been action sim so far. Certainly they fall short of my defination of a simulation. I'd even say that truly realistic sim is flat out impossible given the unrealistic nature of tech in BT. DFA and melee don't bother me any more than the fact Jenner and Atlas can be given same degree of external protection with 5 tons of armour dispite Atlas having like 5 times (or more) the surface area.

With that said, I'm personally hoping for charging, DFA (ie. jump jet charge) and melee with proper animations and depth (eg. pilot ability needed to get a knockdown, or prevent getting knocked over yourself in the process, possibility to go for localized damage with the downside of getting localized damage yourself eg. to your arm, and so forth). These things have been more or less entirely absent from MW games so far (haven't played Crecent Hawks or MW:1, though they are featured in Titans of Steel even if not BT per se).

Got you point and you right, MW is more action than simulator, but its action with many elements from simulator. As you say, MW simulates unreal and unrealistic machines...

I have no problem with DFA, but disagree with melee - this is MECHWARRIOR, not freaky manga robot game.

So Battletech was "freaky manga"? Because it had melee -- you know, punching and kicking and all that.

I'd rather see some melee moves in the game than DFA -- I mean, DFA is really a silly move to try. Your chances of staying on your feet would be minimal.
Try strapping on some of those stilts that contractors use to put drywall ceilings up, then go pile up some 2x4s in the shape of a prone mech. Now JUMP ON THEM. fun :)

I think Battletech is great universe, with history and all things around. But yes, some Battletech mechs are a little bit freaky, weird with "manga" look... It's about the age of the BT world and age of some BT mech designs...
You can say that the melee is part of Battletech - and you right, but melee was never part of any Mechwarrior and I hope it will never be. All Mechwarrior games ignored melee combat as well as ignored melee specialized mechs.
Is natural to have some kind of ramming in the game, but please no axes, no punching, no kicking... because if you have that stuff, why dont add a knife, sword, spear, few karate/kung fu moves... and let's play robotic mortal combat.

Ad. DFA - I dont say it's great tactic or effective...

A slow, clumsy punch or smack with a heavy chopping weapon isn't immersion breaking at all. Yes I agree, complex mortal combat moves would be silly, but if I'm in a fight for my life and end up at melee range, I would use every option available to me, including trying to punch the other guy's cockpit.

As long as melee -looks good- and is suitably cumbersome and clunky, I think it would be a great addition to the game, in time.

DFA is such a rewarding (fun) move to pull off correctly, sticking the foot just right in your opponent's head...

Perhaps I'm spoiled to the pods, but damn it is fun to make someone wear an Atlas hat, or watch a Highlander burial....

That's my perception of Battlemech melee as well. Clumsy attempts to disable opponent with any means available. More clumsy and slow than even in the more realistic real robot anime titles (say, Patlabor or 8th MS Team).

For some reason while reading this thread I'm suddenly picturing a axe-wielding mech going 'Drive me closer!'
