Ok, so there's probably been a few dozen of these by now, but I'm too lazy to go try and dig them up. Standard premise, post your favorite mech config and why you like it. Is it a standard variant, or a custom job? what's the base chassis, if any? What sort of role do you use it for?

my config, custom jobbed 70 ton mech ((used a Nova Cat chassis in MW4)) equipped with ten medium pulse lasers, and ten heat sinks, with the maximum armor that can be fit on the mech, and an engine ugraded a couple spots from the base to make a relativly swift, tough close-up brawler that will chew through most mechs leg armor in fairly short order. I call it the Kneecapper becuase I do target the enemies legs as much as possible, gets you more usable salvage that way, generally you only lose a ton or two of armor, maybe a heatsink or a jumpjet, weapons and electronics are kept mostly intact.

Basically i like anything with energy weapons & heat sinks.A variant of the the Marauder which replaces the AC5 with a large laser & more heat sinks is a favourite of mine. When the tech gets better it's even nastier.Best thing about energy based mech on a campaign is there's no requirements for reloads.
Of course Mechs like the Archer or other Firesupport mechs just need ammo & there's no way round it.

MAD-5D and MAD-5S

The 5D is a better generalist configuration....

2x ERPPC
1x Large Pulse Laser
2x Medium Pulse Laser
1x Streak SRM-2

The 5S though is a sniper mech......

2x ERPPC
2x Medium Pulse Laser
1x Gauss

Avatar with three UAC 20 and a MASC on an arm with no armor. Sound familiar to anyone?

Or how about 14+ flamers on a puma?

Those are both fun.

HSR-300-D Hussar. 2 points of armour on the legs, 1 point on rear torso. When you get hit, you'll feel it.

(For refrence, a single machine gun does 2 points of damage a turn)

It's better than UBR-7W Ubermech with 5 gauss rifles and 2 PPCs with finger of god fire control system.

my Favourite setups for the Dire Wolf are:

Canon variants: Dire Wolf "Prometheus" (Victor-Ian Steiner Davions Mech)
Dire Wolf "Widdowmaker" (Natasha Kerensky´s Mech)

MW4 Variants: Very Similar to "Prometheus" , but i downgraded the lasers to Mediums to fit in 2 of them little UAC/20´s or an ERPPC and 2 Gaussies for long range combat

Although i really hate clan tech the most successful variant i have ever used was the Night Gyr Alt.A followed by the Warhammer IIC
both units could only be mirrored by assault Mechs: Cerberus - more fragile as Warhammer IIC and a Highlander less mobile as Night Gyr

I had a Clanned out Marauder II
I was quite proud of:

Used a Clan XL for extra weight.

Put in
2 Clan ER PPCs
1 Clan Gauss rifle
- (which fit perfectly with that strange CASE that was in the torso there!)
3 SRM6 Streaks
- (One in each Arm and one in the opposite torso to the Gauss)

Ran pretty cool with all the Heat Sinks I put in it.

Loved that mech... :(

Got to love the Stormcrow

Personally I prefer the I variant with 2 LRM15s, 2 ER Large lasers, and 2 ER Medium Lasers :(
Enough firepower to make short work of heavy mechs at medium to long ranges.

And if I need some more firepower, I take out an Ebon Jaguar A: 2 ER Large lasers, 3 ER Medium lasers, 1 medium pulse laser, 1 ultra AC20, 2 machine guns, and a flamer. It may not have any extra heat sinks, but I will not be needing them

Oh! And for assault class ridiculousness, I use a Stone Rhino with 2 ER PPCs and 3 IS large continuous lasers and enough heat sinks to fire them almost perpetually

My favorite mech cofig wouls be an Exterminator with a PPC/LL in place of the LRM launcher and MLs as the close/medium range weapons. Even the down-graded version would be a great ride.

I like a good mix of weaponry, energy and ballistic. I don't mind being completely energy based, but completely ballistic is a bad idea in the long run (some small exceptions.)

One of my most favorite base configs is the ON1-K Orion. How can't you love that good of a mix on a 'mech with 11+ tons of armor?

FLE-20. Follows the one principle of "You can't hit what you can't find." For a custom regiment icon I would go with Tee-Shirt Ninja.

Aside from that, far too many unorthidox custom configs to name that are good for anything but a straight up slug fest in an open field, yet remain quite cost effective.

Well, maybe one more. An Urban mech with only rocket bays, -everywhere-. Cheap as all hell and has one hell of a scattered punch. Banned from the local TT because of a new "No cubic foot of dice Mechs" rule.

Since I like Hunchback, when I saw a clan IIC, I fell in love... Strip the lasers and jump jets, get more speed, maybe some more ammo... that's fun. Not efficient at all, but one hell of a funny config.

While I'm much more of an Inner Sphere guy, I play Mechwarrior 2 the most, and thus my favorite configuration is definitely my own Timberwolf:

2 x LRM-20
4 x Medium Laser
4 x Machine Gun

The LRMs are pretty much a staple on the Timberwolf. The medium lasers provide lots of firepower and you rarely overheat. The 4 machine guns totally shred the armor off of most targets, even heavier mechs. I use it to remove arms or legs, get rid of pesky light mechs, and to poke around for critical hits.

Its a very well rounded mech, and with a top speed of 86.4 km/h, its lightning quick.
