I pity the people of the former Capellan Worlds who are forced to choose between Oppression from Liao or Oppression from Davion.

That's why St. Ives is the place to be. Freedom from Hanse, freedom from Romano.

Nothing says independence like having a foreign nation station troops in your territory while your sovereign is married to the Head of Intelligence of that same foreign nation, AND having your heir go to an Academy in the same foeign nation.

Cool story bro.

And yet the alternative...is better? Chance at true freedom or staying with an insane leader?

Yeah, that's pretty much it: when your choices are independence at the , the relatively tolerant foreign leadership, or the insane local leadership. Personally, I'll take my quasi-independence any day. Better St. Ives than Tikonov. Better Tikonov than the Capellan Confederation under Romano. Given the choices, I like love me some St. Ives.

I always look at the relationship St.Ives had with the FedCom as the same sort of relationship all of the FWL States had with each other.

Empires are bound to fall and rise sooner or later, the Roman Empire/Republic lasted in one form or another from 753 BCE to 1461 CE. That is over 22 centuries if i am correct. The CF is not so special.
