Great stuff, nice clean lines and breathtaking detail.
Looking forward to the final result

Wait no more, friends. Here is the Flea at about 90% complete construction. I still need to add magnets for the torso and clean up some details. Overall, I think it turned out well. The mech is ~1/60 scale and stands about ~5.5" or ~14cm.

@ Caballo: What snap button?

@Adridos: Why? It is so....ugly. ^_^

@Kodiak: I use Evergreen sheet styrene. For the main body I use 0.5 mm thickness...then varying thicknesses for armor shapes. If I feel the shapes do not have enought structural integrity, I will back fill with resin to make them more solid.

@Cooper: Thanks bro...you keep raising the bar and I will keep shooting for it!

cheers, thanks for the info. loving the final build keep it up ;)

1. Do you hand sculpt every model you make?
2. Do you create molds from the original models?
3. Are you planning on making another model after finishing this one? If so, which 'mech do you want to try?

@Mautty

1. I am not sure sculpt is the right word. I use sheet plastic, some sculpting putty, and various greeblies either purchased our scavanged.
2. Sometimes I mold the original. My mold making skills really stink so I only get very general castings...nothing high quality.
3. Yes, I am planning on making another. Currently I have the following done and either painted or in primer: Atlas, Summoner, Thanatos, Argus, Zeus, Annihilator, Mauler, Uller, Ryoken, Hollander, Panther, Puma, Hunchback and Cougar. I still have a Vulture, Griffin, Shadow Hawk, and Wolverine in kit form to build.

Too many subjects, not enough time. :P

very nice work! I would love to see an Uziel. By the way, if somebody makes an .STL 3D model of a mech, i might be able to have it made in our new stereo lithography machine when it comes. One of our engineers has made tank models and biplanes from WW1 in 1/16th scale and they are perfectly accurate. Imagine your favorite mech in full detail and 1 or 2 feet tall!

Just looking at it brings back fond memorys of capture the flag and MechRugby.

As for effectivenes in battle, its true a 20 ton mount doesnt pack much punch, And it would be my personal choice in a cockpit view game like this or mechwarrior living legends.
But on the table top and on a ton for ton basis 5 locusts or fleas, could using the right tactics tie up an Atlas, and eventually take it down.
You need to exploit the speed advantage to stay in the rear, and nibble it to death over time

There is something fun about running around in a Flea and annoying larger mechs that have a hard time tracking you.

People who only play the MechWarrior series without good old fashioned Battletech aren't as likely to appreciate light mechs. Or despise them with as much ire as they can muster.

I used to run with nothing under middle weight, and much to my shame, have lost more Highlanders and Atlas 'mechs than I care to recount to through-armor crits from, usually, Locusts.

I can't say I've ever actually used a Flea in combat, as I always end up playing against friends who tend to grab as many heavy mechs piloted by low-skill pilots as they can, but I would love to see one wreak havoc in an infantry or light armor match.

Light mechs with veteran pilots can be a scarey encounter. One moment your atlas is strolling around, next thing you know there's a whole in your torso or servo and you're flailing about before you fall over. =\

You know it!
I am one of those VETS, I am a Flea pilot from the day it came out. 4mgs and dancing in the enemies 6:00 is the best! I so miss doing that, I really hope the Flea make a return.

I agree with Lord Trogus, the Flea is understated and often looked over but it does have it's uses and not target practice

Like what?
