Hi Everyone

Bit of a book junkie and I've recently read the short story collections Battlecorps Anthologies 1 and 3. Was wondering if some of the more informed Mechwarrior fans might be able to suggest some good books that take place in roughly the same time frame as the game.

You can check the list of novels and pick the ones you want. For this particular timeframe I'd recommend The Blood of Kerensky trilogy to start with.

I enjoyed these :

As much fun as the Clans are (or supposed to be), I liked the exploits of Grayson Death Carlyke.

If you don't mind buckling in for an 8 novel series, I quite liked Twilight of the Clans, as a whole. Some were better than others, of course.

I highly reccomend the books listed in the reply from IceSerpent, those printed in the late 80's --- early 90's are great ones.
Those books are a good glimpse into what looks like the developers idea of the pre-clan technology available to start with in this game.

I hope that as this game continues over the next few years updates will continue to introduce "new" tech to the battlefield. Then after some more time passes >>> Taa Daa......... the Clan appears and invades, introducing more interesting equipment, new factions, new upgrades to older stuff.

Hopefully i will still be loving to play this game for years to come.

Here are most known BT books in chronological order. Since GDL kicks in rather soon you'll have no trouble getting in.

If the mood strikes you to read about clans, I highly recommend you read some of Randall Bill's novels. "Hertic's Faith" from the dark age series is a solid 289 page block of premium grade-A clanner gibberish. (Not for the freebirth at heart mind you) And it's also a decent story

Thanks Guys, I finally found Part 2 of the Battletech Anthology series on kindle and picked it up last night. I will be sure to try some of the suggestions here, i can say for sure i am definitely not a clanner, man they are long winded and gibberish speaking is bang on. Not my cup of tea. The stories i quiet enjoyed were of the small Merc units like the Wraiths and Rangers.

If your into quick reads the short stories in the Battlecorps Anthology series are great, some of them i wish turned into full books as i didn't want them to end.

I'm reading them from http://www.stargazer..._novel_list.htm and just working down the list.

So far the gray death books have been my favorite.

The Warrior Trilogy, by Michael A. Stackpole, is about the events before and during the Fourth Succession War. The main acts are the wedding of Hanse Davion and Melissa Steiner, the experiences of Justin Xiang on Solaris VII and as spy on Sian, the vendetta between Morgan Kell and Yorinaga Kurita, the machinations of Michael Hasek-Davion and of subversive elements inside the Steiner nobility, ComStar's secret manipulations and of course the most important battles of the war. You can also look here for a list of BattleTech Novels.

Skylarr's list is all essential reading,

I'd also add Ideal War by Christopher Kubasik, a recent eBook set in 3054 - a bit after the Clan Invasion. It's probably the best BT book I've read in the last five or six years.

I have to agree, read them ALL. I was about 12 or so when I first found the novels, and they were what actually got me into BT/MW. I am proud to own EVERY single one, all 75 plus every Dark Age written. They are great reads, and I wish there were more. I have to thank Ice for the chron list, I might need to re-order mine, and re-read.

I will tell you, good luck getting them all. A few books, I think Sword and Dagger was the worst, are HARD to find.

I'm going to put in a vote for the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy. Awesome introduction to the Battletech Universe- and it begins right about now in MWO time. Of course... I got my intro to the Battletech Universe by the Saturday morning cartoon- so to me, Battletech was the IS vs. Clan war for quite some time. The Warrior Trilogy is also very good (takes place about 25 years before MWO), as is the Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy (assuming you want to learn about the Clans).
