Thanks for the compliments and tips guys! Chas I always follow that rule (at least these days I do <_< ) I hadn't seen that BF3 simulator before, def. impressive. John is sounds like you have a pretty sweet setup, you should post pics I would love to see it. Ok guys, small update. Due to the fact that my air conditioning is out of commission for the next day or 2 and it hit 90 degrees here today, starting a fire in my office to heat up the branding iron seemed like a ill advised idea. However we did get the top for the PC cabinet cut to size, whipped out some tubing to figure out routing and component placement. Good news is I am confident that we will be able to stick with the inverted trapdoor mounted PC concept and I will be finishing the sketchup model including tubing in the next couple of days. Final bit of news the desk build just (Ok mainly the MW branding iron) just got a mention in the No Guts No Galaxy Mechwarrior podcast. You can check it out at www.nogutsnogalaxy.net its a really great podcast and a must for any Mechwarrior/Battletech fan. Anywho expect a bigger update a little later in the week.

Also right now I am still planning on using a Piano/continuous hinge but I am open to other options so if you know of another solution please post it up esp. if its exotic or overkill.

OK, I see a hydraulic lift to bring all the electronics to eye level when needed.
Is that overkill enough?

I did look into that costs waaaay to much (about $500 just for the arms that go to 24 inches)

Hmm... lots of ideas here... awesome work so far on the whole setup you've got going  I'd like to see the finished product once you've completed it (I do like viewing the work-in-progress too).

Which leads me to think it's time to design my own setup, albeit my room is a lot smaller than your's so there's some things I need to compact down in size... or maybe I can convert my closet :P

Awesome guys, if you need any help with designs or ideas just lmk. Alpha I have no idea what sjipping from the states to NZ would be , but the brand is a bit on the delicat side (Its designed so it can be re bent into shape cause every time you heat it up and brand with it its naturally going to warp.) But I would be open to a world wide tour of the branding iron if we could get everyone lined up.

Maybe this was covered V.V. But are you using a full tower, or is that part of the desk gonna be the tower?

Oh, and did you win the lottery?

Awesome build, can't wait to see the finished product.

As for hinges, whatever you end up using, you might want to sort-of take Acheron seriously. A set of decent hydro arms (car hood?) would save a bunch of wear & tear on the hinges and the desk where they attach.

I was running off a little plan in my head and was lucky that I only had to cut once..... so far.

Sunday Night ended up with this so far.

Will give another up date tomorrow. I really wonder how much I'll get done tonight after I finish work.

No plans yet for computer upgrading and that so will have to look into what I can do with my very little pay.

It also doesn't help that the room isn't SQUARE!!!

First off, HELL YEAH Alpha, go to town man. As far as the room not being square, thats why I did not atatch anything to the walls (none of them are square in a 60 year old house) However if you are building piece by piece you should be able to compensate pretty well by adjusting your measurements tot he imperfections.

Elder St00bert, if you look on pages 5 & 6 you will see my Cad designs to build the PC into the desk and liquid cool it while being mounted on a trap door.

As for hinges I am thinking about just biting the bullet and custom cut/sand the piano hinge in so I get full 180 degree flexability plust all of the streagnth I need. Still deciding though. Thanks again for the compliments guys!

I wasn't thinking about hinges for the top, I was thinking of a hydraulic piston in the floor to raise the entire electronics assembly portion out of the table, but your idea is much more cost effective.

But while it was lifting it would have to automaticly play the monolith theme from 2001.

I like this idea, I've been trying to come up with a workable hinge system that would allow for a flush mount but this is awesome.
