After reading both of your post and the poster whom I also quoted, you (as in both of you) I feel are implying that most do not know these things, thus the reason for your postings. Follow me?

The word "beta" has been perverted, that is the point of the clarification/reminder post. May games have released a "beta" to people as more of a marketing/demo tool instead of actually having it be a real beta test. This has become incredibly prevalent, and thus skewing what the general populace seems to think "beta" is.

I don't get where the insult was in pointing out what a beta really means to people who may not know, or to those who used to know but have been programed by recent experience to forget.

I agree that the term "beta" has been greatly abused in general. However, the age of Battletech and the Mech Warrior versions of it it from experience is of a more technical savy crowd than most other games around. I think that people here and around the community can tell the difference between a beta test and early game access. Maybe I came off a bit strong, but I felt our intelligence was being put into question, thats all.

At the moment, I work in QA. The job is a lot of work.

But y'know what? I'd be perfectly content with contributing a few hours after I get home each night to trying to test this game and make it that much better.

Even better, I'd be more than happy to shell out, say, $50 for an Alpha Test slot (that's pre-Beta, kiddies - y'know, when the actual work gets done, before the unwashed masses attack) to be able to help test out the game while I stare at an awesome piece of some of the concept art that would be mounted above my computer desk... *hinthint* :)

Sidenote, re:BSGO: Really? They actually posted a list of Beta testers? Damn. Gonna have to check for my name.

If it came with an actual metal keychain, I'd pay a few bucks extra.

I'd be more interested in seeing it available for purchase w/t-shirts and such than see beta be payed for only though.

I thought "Minimal Viable Product" was code for "Beta Test"? I think we ARE all going to beta test my friends.

Anyway, if there was a "closed" beta on a F2P game, it would be better to not put a price on it. With price comes expectations.

Now, sell me Resin Mechs and giant Posters and mouse pads and stuff. I got some $$ for that! Beta testing though? I'll play D3 Beta, MW4, AC-10, Rise of Flight, Skyrim, shogun2, wow with the kids... if its free, I'll sign up the whole family to test. Just can't see paying to play. Free to play remember?

I like the idea! But c'mon? Keychain? Hats! T-Shirts! Helmets with heads up displays and eye trackers! MWO brand limited edition controllers, etc. Market this sucker!
