I will get a dev version. Its only 300$ and the immersion will be awesome for this game.
The coding can not be that hard to do. Since look around in the cockpit already exists, even i could attack that to the oculus head tracker.
The picture distortion for the rift headset is probably a bit hard to do.

I'm sure most of you hardcore gamers have heard the internets drooling over the latest VR tech that has Gabe Newell and John Carmack very excited.

If not check out the newest developments here:

As cool as it is, until games support it it's pretty much useless. With that in mind I'd like to get a feel for what people think about it here.

I have played Hawken and I probably won't ever be leaving MWO for it, but I would still like to see MWO match it in this regard especially since MWO > Hawken.

The only way for that to happen though is for the developers to either think it's cool enough to support on their own (I don't have a lot of faith in them TBO) or for the forums to get behind it.

Anyways, what's your take on this Oculus Rift?

Who. Cares.

How about some real bug fixes/features/anything of substance being added to the game instead of this eyesore?

Gotta love these forum rules... IMO just lock threads that name/advertise other games/products..

Once the base game is where it should be, im sure they will look into niche markets like this.

The Rift seems like just another gimmick to me. Personally I don't want my vision cut off, that would keep me from keeping an eye on my actual surroundings.

What'd be the point in adding this to either MWO or hawken? Both games should work properly before you start adding virtualboy support, joysticks, pedals, and all the other plastic gear so many seem to collect.

Are you serious? Hostile because you got some mild rejections of your trivial, unimportant-to-the-development-of-the-game suggestions that would slow down progress?

This is one of the more civil game forums on the internets, in case you haven't been around much lately.

With the greatest of efforts, I will attempt to remain civil and objective. I think that something like the Occulus Rift presents excellent FUTURE DIRECTIONS for game developers. The closer to the conceptual virtual world you can take me, the better I say. Add to these some force feedback gloves that can simulate the feeling of stick and throttle and I swear I'll get all shivery and goosebumped.

One WOULD SUGGEST, however, that such technological implementations, including mainstream game support for devices like the Occulus Rift, would be a year or three down the line, rather than in developer sights at the IMMEDIATE moment, especially in situations like MwO where it's not even an actual "Game" yet [as it's really no more than a combat and balance test delivery bed atm]. Perhaps when we see the actual game world released and are focusing mainly on adding user consumable content [mechs, equipment] VS netcode and memory leaks, etc they may begin to look at integrating devices like the Occulus Rift. By that time, who knows. . The OR may actually be commercially available and the world will know whether or not it's a colossal success or a dismal failure. Never know ;)
