I have a request - but it's not for someone to make me a signature, it for someone to point me at tutorials that I would find helpful in order to better make my own! As you can see mine sucks mightily so even if it's a small one-page set of instructions on how to make glowing eyes, colour fonts, or design ideas....ANYTHING....then I would be eternally appreciative.

I've never made a sig for anyone else...so most definitely a learning curve and a work in progress:



It could start to look a little cramped with a merc badge and more text - very much an either/or if you ask me

What about zooming out of the picture a bit so there's room for a badge? Any ideas for animation?

I could make the Mech smaller but I don't do animation - or I wouldn't be asking for assistance in making sigs!! The trouble with a badge is that I'm no great artist and so far I haven't managed to achieve anything I was happy with via brushes and various shading techniques.

I might have to resort to using some stock art for the correct sort of hand-painted effect that I think you're after.

This is difficult! I know what I want to achieve, and I think I know the style you're after but I'm not very good at sigs

Looking at the post, the blues are very prominent and the rest of the sig is rather more subtle. The dragon/skull design I used doesn't really work for me even with the addition of the heraldic scroll as the rather feudal design of that layer doesn't sit well next to the far more contemporary feel of the rest, and I don't think that style of text works either.

Sorry duder, I'll keep banging away at it - just need for some inspiration to strike or for someone who knows what they're doing to make a far better job of it than I have! In my minds eye I can see the finished product but I don't have the PS skills to realise it.

I actually really love the colors and the skull and dragon. The background needs help though. Here's something I just pooped out in GIMP on my break...

nevermind some of the funny layers. I was playing with adding gunfire type effect to it if you turn them on.
Maybe zoom out a little on the skull and dragon so more of it is visible?

Haha thanks. I always get so closed off in my own ideas that I can't be creative... but some of yours gave me some GREAT ideas, so THANK you!

My favorite trick in photoshopping/gimping/digital art is using a brush with almost complete transparency and mouse click stipple.. I know it's a tedious way to draw but.. I like it.

I'm just an untalented old fart. Man, I wish I were younger so I absorbed the information more readily and had the patience to make really outstanding end results.

Lots of transparent brushes, must make a note of that.......how did you do the weapon glows?

Weapon glows I did were with transparent brushes. I'm really handicapped with GIMP. Photoshop is what I"m used to, which makes glows REALLY easy to do with layer styles. I only know how to use it because I had a job using Photoshop all day for 3 years... lots of time to play with stuff. And even with that being said, I think there are others on here way better than me.

I just now decided that I do want to color the dragon like DoctorJest did... Needs to be blue...

Looks good. I actually think it works in that shade because of the background nearby - perhaps something to think about? If you do an image search the blue variant is a little way down the results but I'm sure you'll find it.
