Sorry for the newb question upfront. I am new to the Mechwarrior universe and know nothing of the lore. Where do lone wolves fit in? Are they just mercs without a corp backing them? Thanks for the responses.

P.S. if you know any good places to load up on lore let me know thanks

The best places to look for general lore are Sarna.net and Bg.Battletech.com.

As for lonewolves, they are quite rare in lore, since it's really expensive to maintain a mech without any kind of backing. There are a few famous ones like the Bounty Hunter, but as I said, they are quite rare.

Greetings, welcome to the forums!

Not entirely sure how the Lone Wolf gameplay will work. Supposedly it'll be just as rewarding as joining a Merc crew or IS faction. I'm kinda assuming what you said, similar to a merc w/out a corp.

For all your lore needs, your first stop could be http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page

As far i can remember a lone wolf is a mercanry you can hire to do youre dirty work.
They are loosely clan based and answer to no one.

in the 78th mechanized legion good lone wolves will be shock troops or diversions to draw the enemies attention while the light lances flank the enemy but we will always be looking out for them ready to save em at a moments notice should they require assistence. whereas bad lone wolves will mostly be bait cannon fodder and meat shields.
