If my computer can't run MWLL, should I be worried about MWO?

Well, I recently found out that my four year old laptop is not powerful enough to run MechWarrior: Living Legends. Seeing how as MechWarrior Online runs on CryEngine 3 and my computer can't even run MWLL on CryEngine 2, it seems like I'm going to be needing a new computer.

The only hope I have is that my computer can run Crysis decently on medium settings. I don't know about Crysis 2. Someone please tell me that this is just a case of MWLL requiring a much more hardcore computer than the engine alone would and that I don't need to buy a new computer.

Otherwise, MechWarrior Online is going to be the most expensive free-to-play game ever.

CryEngine 3 is more lenient on the Hardware.
Hell, it even runs on Consoles for crying out loud . .
Try if you can run Crysis 2 on it.

Isn't MWLL a mod built on the Crysis 2 Engine.

So yeah I'd say your probably looking at a PC upgrade, if your lucky it's a graphics card and RAM issue in which case you should be able to fix the issue for under $300, you can pick up a 6850 and extra RAM which will solve your problem.

MWLL is built on the first Crysis.

The problem is that I'm running Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro, and I don't know how convenient or viable upgrading a Mac with PC components would be. Add to that the fact that my gaming computer is the same exact computer I'm using for college, it's getting painfully clear that I'm going to have to shell out $700+ for a new PC if I want to keep up with the world of computer games.

Did I mention that I have tuition and other school-related expenses to pay?

Crysis was made with the Cry2Engine. As was Living Legends.

You'd have to go back to the Farcry games to see the original CryEngine.

Mechwarrior Online is using the Cry3Engine - which is the same one used for Crysis 2. This can be confusing.

Although Crysis 2 was a bit lighter on the requirements, the engine and all of it's awesome can be much more powerful.

YES. You should be worried if you can't run MW:LL. Look at upgrade options, I've seen (normal desktop) video cards that will easily handle these games for about 2-300$. You'll still be able to scrape by on a 100$ card, but might have to turn some things down. I have no advice about laptops however, Sorry.

This actually leads to an interesting point that I dont think have been addressed so far. How much scaling of the graphics will the developers allow? Since the game is all PC (god bless them) it opens up for the possibility of a lot of tweaking with the graphics. This in turn can also mean that we just might see just how insane the Cryengine3 can be, when you dont have to subdue it to the restraints of inferior system *cough* consoles *cough*.

Personally I find that the graphics in MWLL is really nice to look at already, and with MWO I'm hoping the developers will hold nothing back so we can really enjoy blowing mechs up with glorious graphics.

I feel the same way. If the Devs can, have the graphics settings set up so on low setting something like a old dual core AMD X2 and 3870 can run it for those with not so powerful systems, but also have it so on ultra settings it can make my I7 2600K @ 4.2ghz and crossfireX 5870 cards scream for mercy and all of us have a computer nerdgasm looking at the graphics. This would be a win/win for everyone.

Here's an easier way to tell. OP, what are the specs on your MBP?

MWLL for instance is very heavy on the CPU. More often than not you will notice, that your actual GPU load is low or even incredibly low. Lowering graphics settings cannot improve this.

This topic has been a good read this far. Unfortunatly NameTheftVictim said he/she is using a laptop (mackbook pro). This means there is a very limited possibility of doing any upgrades to make the machine capable of playing MWO. Yes, im sure the Devs will have some scaling in the game...I know Crysis 2 does. All in All... I would be worried. So my question is can you run Crysis 2 on it? If you can... it would be safe to say that you can run MWO.

Sorry. Not only is it a laptop, but it is 4 years old. If anything, you may be able to run it alright on all low settings, but I wouldn't hold much hope. Obviously, wait until spec come out to purchase anything.

With a four year old laptop i'm going to say no, you won't be able to run MWO.
